Three Warm Thoughts for Your Weekend

Cynthia Herron Encouragement Leave a Comment

The first week back to work after a lengthy Christmas break is always hard.

For those who have children at home, there’s back to school. For folks who commute to work, it’s back to familiar. For writers, it’s all about that sweet spot. Our writing routine.

Work in some form. Hitting our stride. Settling in.

Making the most of effort expended while rediscovering ourselves.

Throw in sunless winter days, bone-chilling cold, and the impatience for a spring too far away, and it’s enough to challenge our pre-Christmas mindset.

How, then, do we maintain our holiday happy place?

Great question.

For me, it’s all about attitude—intentionally choosing a positive frame of reference and clinging to it.

That means focusing on good things despite the tendency to slip into coast mode.

When we look for and latch onto warm thoughts, we’re proactive participants and not neutral bystanders.

It’s a way to live out our faith. To actively accept and enjoy God’s blessings.

Here are three feel-goods to get you started. Enjoy!

First, a really great quote by Sandi Krakowski:

Fear will keep you from what God has for you. It’s critical that you fight against it with the weapons of faith. DO the thing you fear!

Think about this. Allow Sandi’s words to soak in for a moment. How many times has your dream seemed too big—your goal too unobtainable? How often has fear of the unknown stopped you dead in your tracks? (I know. If we’re honest, we’ve all faced this.)

Take Sandi’s quote to heart. Think about it this weekend and resolve to move forward. (Remember—active participant.)

Second warm fuzzy: This message of encouragement by Tricia Goyer spoke to my heart. How often throughout the day—the week—does God permit our paths to cross with specific people just so we can encourage (bless) them?

Third warm thought for your weekend: Ever wonder about the story behind St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital? Read this 1981 Guideposts classic as actor and comedian Danny Thomas shares his heart. His story about God’s influence on his life will inspire you. Whose life will you impact today?

May your weekend be filled with warm thoughts and encouraging influences!

See you back on Wednesday.
