March: The Month of Fun Things to Come

We haven’t had much of a winter in my neck of the woods, other than a brief burst last week, so I’m not going to complain. That would go against my positive, upbeat nature. (Cue the rainbow music, please.)

I think it would be fair to say, however, most of us are tired of the clouds, the cold, and Old Man Winter.

For writers, dark, dreary days can be mood-killers. For me, it’s not so much the occasional snow shower, ice storm, or mini-blizzard that curtail my creativity. It’s the endless days of gray, colorless sky and the bone-chilling temperatures that set me on edge.

I crave the sunshine and warmth. Once February has bid us adieu, I’m ready for Spring!

The month of March ushers in all things fun:

  • Daylight savings time (Extra minutes/daylight improve performance…and make me smile more.)
  • Tree buds (Bad news for allergy sufferers, but cheer up! Won’t the pretty leaves/blossoms be worth it?)
  • St. Patrick’s Day (Corn beef and cabbage, wearing o’ the green, and celebration of all things Irish.)
  • March Madness (Football! Yay! Ooops… It’s basketball, right? I knew that.)
  • Spring sales (Yep. That pretty purple bedspread. You know you want it!)
  • New writing goals (No more “cold weather” excuses. Time to get out and research, baby!)
  • Garden planning (I don’t, but you should.)
  • Parties (Because I’m a party girlgiggle. Just typing that was fun!)
  • New recipes (I’m a BIG FAN of my Fix-it and Forget-It Cookbook. Check out this fun website for easy and deelish meals. Assign a family member one day a week to create a culinary feast! They’ll be thrilled. Mostly.)
  • Celebrations (Palm Sunday, Good Friday, and Easter. See. I saved the BEST for last! And “fun” doesn’t do this season justice. Think liberating. Life-changing. Everlasting love!)

What are you looking forward to during the month of March?

Are you setting new goals?

Last month’s blog giveaway was a $15 Starbucks gift card and a copy of Gary Neal Hansen’s Kneeling With Giants. (Thank you, InterVarsity Press, for the book donation!) At the end of March, I’ll have another blog drawing for a fun surprise. Every time you leave a comment/subscribe to this blog, your name will be entered. I look forward to many of the same things, but I don’t mind writing on endless cloudy days. It’s the sunshine that tempts me away from days I should be writing, but I agree that researching is so much more fun when it’s warm and lovely out!

I love St. Patty’s Day! We make Irish stew, Colcannon and Irish Soda bread. So yummy and fun!

What a fun list, Cindy. I’m looking forward to many of those things as well. I am, however, hoping we get some wet weather. We’ve been having another dry winter here in the Sierra Foothills of California, and that doesn’t bode well for water needs come summer when our area is dry and fire-prone.

I’m looking forward to diving into a new story this month. I love spending time with a new cast of characters.

Keli, I can identify with the lack of moisture. We do need the rain/snow to help our water tables–we have a well so dry seasons do present some concern. And my goodness, I pray your area doesn’t have to deal with forest fires this summer!

Here’s to inspiration and productivity as you create– *Clink* — (Starbucks cheers!)

March is all about word count for me — and some spring break time too — but when a deadline looms, word count is the end all, be all.
Springtime in the Rockies is always fun because it means snow and cold and ice … not the typical “here comes the sun” idea of spring.

Beth, eeek! Yes, Spring’s a bit slower to arrive where you’re at, isn’t it? I guess the cold, snowy weather means more indoor writing time–and lots of hot chocolate!

Here’s something to help you stay warm…. (((cyber hug!)))

I’m ready for spring and baby birds, a new grandbaby in April…but Easter tops the list, Jesus is risen, and that makes everything else the butter on the Bread.
