A View from My Neck of the Woods

This weekend marked the opening of National Kid’s Fest at Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri.

Since it’s a great idea for families to get away now and then to regroup, that’s exactly what we did.

It was hot–about 87 degrees hot–but there was a light breeze, and we had our trusty mondo-sized water jug and, of course, our little plastic cups that were just the right size for quick sips.

We packed a lot into the day:

We sampled the pizza buffet first. (Had to have sustenance to give us energy.)

We checked out Hazel’s Blown Glass Factory.

We petted baby goats and piglets.

We rode rides, listened to musicians, saw street shows, and worked in a “tiny” bite of ice cream.

We hiked up and down the hillsides, visited various shops, and watched kids of all ages pound the pavement in search of more fun. (All over the park there were tons of kid-friendly stations  guaranteed to entertain even the smallest of tots.)

The highlight of our time at Silver Dollar City was when we watched the world-famous high-wire artist, Nik Wallenda and family. This act was nothing short of amazing! If you get the opportunity to ever see them perform, it’s really  a breath-taking treat. I shot some great video of their grand finale, but alas, I didn’t think I should let the cat out of the bag here.

Our family enjoys life in the Ozarks. It’s a slower pace in our neck of the woods and somewhat removed from the hustle and bustle of other areas.

We’d love to have you visit sometime!

Where is your family’s favorite getaway destination?

If you write, what’s your fave geographical setting for your novels?

I was going to email and ask you how you made that cool picture, you read my mind!

I loved Hazels. I remember good times at Silver Dollar.

I’m from Southern Illinois, so many of my stories take place in Chicago, small towns or here in Memphis but I’ve done LA and Thailand (I’ve been to Thailand, but not LA).

Glad you had a great time!

Jess, we get season passes almost every year. Great Christian family-owned theme park and fun for folks of all ages.

Can’t wait to read your books with all the different locations! (Will the one set in Memphis have a BBQ recipe or two in it?) And Thailand…wow! You’re a well-traveled gal.
