Words That Move Us

Writers love words. That’s why we write. We like rolling words around on our tongue. We like the mental imagery we can create with words.

It humbles us to know that our words change lives–that our stories stay alive long after we’ve finished telling them.

Writing may seem like such an intangible thing, but when you stop and think about it, good, bad, or indifferent, the written word has the power to shape futures, predict outcomes, and move us to action.

Consider:
Newspaper headlines can stop us in our tracks.

Media transcripts leave us aghast.

Tell-all biographies create celebrities.

Carefully crafted words determine presidents.

As a writer of faith-based romance, I prefer to leave the graphic horror stories and tales of grim and gore to others. That’s not what I like to read, write, or what I’m gifted at. The message I try to portray in my work is one of encouragement and hope. In the midst of so much suffering, it’s important to me to be a beacon where, for some, shadows have fallen and the light has grown dim.

The divinely inspired, God-breathed words of the Bible cause me to reflect on a daily basis how I can make a difference. I might not be able to move mountains, but He can!

If you’re reading this today, and that sounds so simplistic, so out-of-touch, I’m not sure that I can really explain it. I think it has to do with faith. As a Christian, I know that I know that I know. (Hebrews 11:1)

And because of my faith, I want to share the words He’s gifted me with.

I want to move others with stories of faith, hope, and of course, love.

I’m certain it’s not by accident that my novels will center around families, children, and small town life.

What words are you passionate about?

What types of stories do you like to read? To write?

Can you think of a particular novel that has made a profound impact upon your life?

I love when you expressed that “I know that I know that I know…Hebrews 11:1 is one of my life verses. Faith is the key.

I feel His hand in my writing too.

I don’t think her books would be considered novels, but Erma Bombeck’s writing opened my eyes to facing life with a sense of humor. I was a very tense young wife and mother at that time.
