Why You Need At Least One of These in Your Life

Today I wanted to broach a delicate subject. Something we don’t like to talk about, but it’s ohh so important.

What would you guess that is?

Well, I’m sure you’ve noticed we’re not in Kansas anymore. In fact, some days it feels like we’re not even on the map. It’s a tough gig for positive people just now.

In the current climate, we don’t often score points if we’re not rallying to a cause, igniting a flame, or hitching a ride on the bandwagon.

Don’t misunderstand. Clearly, there are causes and issues near and dear to our hearts, as they should be.

There are topics to address, fallacies to dispel, and wrongs to right.

And let’s be honest—we could debate it all into infinity.

But…

I know. You knew it was coming, though. So… I’ll just say it.

To remain in a constant state of upheaval from sun-up ’til sundown distorts reality. It stirs conflict and magnifies it.

This state of unrest yields mistrust and mayhem. It mangles any attempt at positivity.

It steals the show and crafts its own agenda.

This is why we need at least one encourager in our lives—one bright light who won’t suck us dry or tamp out the sun. (Tweet this)

They’re out there. We may have to look for them.

Encouragers aren’t wimps or weak-kneed pushovers. They aren’t “yes men/women” who agree to everything to spare an argument.

They aren’t underachievers or out-of-touch airheads.

They aren’t Suck-it-up Sallys too scared to engage.

Well then…

Who are they?

Who are these go-to folks that draw us, boost us, and speak sense during chaos?

Certainly, encouragers aren’t infallible. They’re not always happy at any given moment.

They’re not above reproach.

And yet…

Encouragers are champions.

They temper hate with love.

They speak goodness, despite the dark.

They dismantle evil with a kind word, a hopeful heart, and a strong resolve—and sometimes, a deaf ear.

When others tear down, they rebuild.

Encouragers encourage tactfully, truthfully, lovingly. They don’t simply tell us what we want to hear. They say the hard things that make us think twice.

They rally us to be more than a number and less than a “status.”

They support our vision, our mission, and our destiny. They take the journey with us and delight in it.

We’ve heard it before. We’re known by the company we keep.

We choose.

There’s a big difference between having an off-day and being the off-day 24/7, seven days a week. Chopped liver won’t kill us, but a bad attitude will.

Think about it.

Who are the encouragers in your life?

If you have to think about that longer than sixty-seconds, it’s time to make a new friend.

Let me introduce myself.

Hi—I’m Cindy.

And you are?
