Life in the Ozarks is indeed a mixed bag.
The weather here is known to change on a dime, and it’s not uncommon to have 20 degree temperature shifts within an hour or two when a front moves through. (This week we’ve hit upper 50s. Next week it’s the 30s. Brrr.)
While fall is my favorite time of year, it also ushers in change.
I feel the need to get things done. To wrap up loose ends as the year winds down.
Some projects I tackle vigorously, but other to-dos I ponder.
Like most folks, I adore fall color. It’s when the feast of color begins to wane that I long for the season to linger. The holidays ahead excite me, but I’m not a fan of the cold, harsh winter. To tell you the truth, that’s something I could do without.
Today I wanted to kick off this season of change with the following inspiration. Enjoy!
- Aunt Ruthie made me smile this week with her blog post about family traditions. I loved this big, ol’ dose of feel good so much! Check it out.
- Ruthie Dean shared her unfathomable joy with us. Grab a hanky and pop on over. (Hint: Baby story ahead!)
- With the approaching holidays—which means more calories—10 Simple Ways to Increase Your Metabolism Without Working Out was a great article via Lifehack.
- Speaking of holidays, my friend Donna Pyle had wise words here. You’ll think of the Lamaze principle in a whole new way! (You may remember, I recently reviewed Donna’s latest book.)
- Ever wonder about the use of hashtags on Twitter or other social media? Well, wonder no more. Edie Melson dishes how to do it right. Don’t miss her post on 5 Tips for Using Hashtags Correctly.
- Need incentive to propel you forward? Here are 20 inspirational nuggets courtesy of me.
I pray you have a super-blessed weekend!

I prefer Beach Boys-style “endless summer”, myself. Winter’s a literal pain, as I can’t wear long pants for any length of time – burns on my legs left the skin too sensitive. Even warm-ups hurt.
But I did enjoy the fall colors when I was well enough to go to places where they are visible (not here, on this mesa). I remember seeing a street that was overhung by trees, a literal red-orange tunnel. Lovely memory, that.

Andrew, I love fall in the Ozarks. Love it! Someday, though, I think the beach will call me. Living on “island time” holds great appeal. Well…that and the seafood!
(I’m so sorry about your sensitive skin. Our oldest dealt with that when he was very ill. He had some relief with Aveeno dry skin cream and something on prescription, I believe. Ask your doctor what he’d recommend.)
Happy Weekend!
I love change. I need it. Funny thing is, I also love routine. I’m a study in contradictions, truthfully. But yeah, always when it gets to the end of a long, hot summer, I start to craaaave fall and cool temps and all the change that goes along with autumn. I love it! I don’t even mind winter cold…at least not for the first couple months. Generally by mid-Feb I’m quite over it.

Melissa, when I was a kiddo I thought snow and cold weather were fun. Now? Not so much. Sunny days with comfortable temps about 70 would be my ideal. (Unless I lived in a condo on the beach. Then the 90s would be perfectly acceptable. Ha!) Have a great weekend!
