I love this time of year. I always have.
While in some ways the season is bittersweet, in other ways, it’s a quiet reminder of beauty yet to come. In a burst of renewed energy, nature sheds her summer cloak in favor of a brief, but vibrant, mantle of color.
Although I’ve lived in the Ozarks all my life, God’s handiwork never ceases to amaze me. I adore the orange, red, and bronze leaves trembling from restless tree limbs, and sometimes, I wonder how heaven will surpass this (but of course, I know it will!)
Besides the visual feast of fall, there are other things that inspire me about the season:
1. The scent of wood smoke lingering in the air
2. It’s chili time!
3. Snuggly blankets and fuzzy house slippers
4. Old movies as the days grow shorter
5. Hot chocolate, flavored teas, and apple cider
6. A great book on rainy days
7. Pumpkin pie
8. Scented candles
9. Productive writing time…until the holidays hit
10. Fall festivals
11. Lower utility bills (at least for a few months)
12. The ACFW conference (precursor to fall)
13. Long drives
14. Thanksgiving prep
15. Christmas shopping (I like to get an early start.)
16. Walks at the nature center
17. Afternoon picnics
18. My alma mater’s homecoming
19. New recipes
20. Sweater weather

Fall is my fave, for sure! Cheered when you said ACFW–definitely one of my favorite parts of fall. Also, my birthday…and pumpkin spice lattes…and the fact that I get to wear pretty scarves and fun boots!

Melissa: I love your faves, too! Sooo glad scarves are in fashion (once again!) And anything with pumpkin has gotta be good! 🙂
I have to say your ACFW devotion blew me away.Definitely a two tissue memory.
Loree: Happy October Birthday! I love chilis, stews, and soups and anything hot in cooler weather. I think I equate it to comfort. The appeal of the wood-scented hills never grows old.
Autumn for sure. I’m an October baby so fall is like my spring. I also love that I can make soup and stews again. I love the changing leaves. The scent of wood smoke on the brisk wind ties it all together…
I love the fall season. I love the leaves changing colors, cooler weather and hay rides with my children.
Now that I have moved to a warmer state, we are still having 80-90 degree weather, I may have to change my favorite season to winter.

Janella: The changing leaves are indeed so lovely. I haven’t been on a hay ride in years, but I used to enjoy those, too. Today it’s in the upper 50s here, but next week, it may be 80–that’s life in the Ozarks. Thanks so much for visiting!
Keli: Wow, what a summer you had! So thrilled for you and the release of your debut novel! Our church will be hosting a harvest festival, as well. You’re one brave “fish”…er… gal (for volunteering in your fishing booth). We’re having lots of food, games, and a classic car show. I bet Gwynly would love it. Why don’t you come visit?
Jess: I can just picture you as a hoodie girl, of course. What colors are you partial to? Yay for fall!
I like all the seasons. I welcome each one, but by the time it ends, I’m ready for the next.
I was eager for summer to arrive this year. My debut novel released smack dab in the middle of it, plus I got to spend more time with my teacher hubby, who gets ten weeks off.
Although I enjoyed the summer immensely, I’m ready to bid the hot, dry days farewell and welcome fall. I look forward to cooler temperatures, rain, and being the “fish” in the fishing booth at our church’s Harvest Festival, delighting kids with the dollar store items I had such fun selecting.
FALL!!!! For so many of those reasons! I’m more of a Hoodie girl vs. sweaters. I love this time of year. 🙂
I love fall too! One of my favorite things about the season is pumpkin spice coffee. Just ordered two bags of the stuff from Green Mountain. Love it!

Chad, pumpkin spice coffee rocks! Just had my 2nd cuppa this morning.I will resist anything chocolate, though, until after 10:00 a.m. ha!
I have to go with summer. I like knowing that the day is going to be warm from the time I climb out of bed until I fall into it again. Grilling outdoors affords a break from the kitchen, exercising outdoors provides a nice change of pace.
