Summer Greetings from the Ozarks

Hi friends! Summer greetings to you and yours from our neck of the woods.

Hope your week’s off to a great start!

This is the time of year when things get pretty hot and sticky in the Ozarks. The temperatures soar and so does the humidity. (Perfect hair days are a figment of the imagination at least until early fall.)

As partial as I am to these gorgeous hills and hollows, I must admit, I’m not a fan of the 90+ degree weather or the heat-laden air where nothing seems to stir. The long, lazy days of summer don’t seem nearly as long or as lazy as when I was a kiddo and the heat is not my friend. *sigh*

I’m sure I probably moan about our fickle winters, too. (Wasn’t it just yesterday I wrote this blog post thinking winter would surely last forever?)

So, what’s a gal to do when it’s a toasty 96 degrees outside? Why, meet up with family at Silver Dollar City, of course! (I know. What were we thinking?) But on the bright side— the crowds weren’t huge and the lines for rides and attractions weren’t long. And I only came close to fainting once.

That was yesterday. And no— we don’t normally backslide from church to visit our favorite family-owned, Christian-oriented theme park, but we have cousins visiting this area and their time is limited so there you have it.

A quick recap: almost two weeks ago, my husband’s dad passed away without warning. He’d not been ill or had any recent health problems, so the loss has been traumatic, especially for my mother-in-law.

We’re still trying to emotionally process my FIL’s passing. Because there were no good-byes, it feels like perhaps he’s away on a fishing trip and should be back any moment.

The funeral is over, but closure is difficult because of the circumstances. Please continue to pray for my MIL.

Moving on to some things that inspired me last week that I’d like to share with you, too:

What’s new with me?

Recently, I placed as a Top 50 Finalist in Family Fiction’s Short Story Contest. My story will appear in an upcoming anthology, but you can read it here.

I’m also hard at work on other projects I’ll share more about in the future.

Here’s to a great week and cooler weather!

How’s your summer going?

Are you a fan of hot summer days or do you prefer the cooler weather?

Blessings Always,

Thank you, thank you, thank you for mentioning my post, Fragile! You are so sweet.

You know, the humidity has really thrown me for a hair loop! I’ve lived most all my life in Texas, except for a three year tour to Spokane, WA. But I’ve lived in dry locations in Texas … so dry, there was always the threat of no water. However, my hair did brilliant in those areas … it was smooth … thought I had outgrown bad hair days. Then I move more East … humidity. With that and my new gray hairs … I don’t know what to do with this hair. If I flat iron it, it just poofs the minute I walk outdoors. So I’ve been leaving it on the crimping, curly side … but it’s just “meh” as Jennifer would say! 🙂

And Cynthia … this picture of me in the Bluebonnets … it was SOOO humid that day. That is why my hair is so thick looking. Gracious me! I was hoping for a new Bluebonnet pic, but I may have to revert back to the old one!

And listen, I’m so sorry about your FIL. I lost my FIL and MIL years ago. They both had such extreme health issues … but we knew for so long. I can’t imagine not getting to say goodbye. You all continue to be in my prayers.

And congrats on your story. I knew all along it would place!

Shelli, thank you so much for your kind condolences and your sweet congrats on the contest. You’re such a beautiful sister in Christ—inside and out.

(About the hair—gal, yours is stunning! I love your website photo!)
