Some Delicious Tidbits

Cynthia Herron Writing Conferences 8 Comments

I recently registered for the 2012 American Christian Fiction Writers conference in Dallas. The annual ACFW conference is one of the largest writers conferences in the United States with over 700 people in attendance last year alone. I expect that number to grow this year. If you’re serious about your writing career and you would like to further your craft, then this is the conference for you!

You’ll get to mingle with like-minded believers, connect with friends and fellow writers, meet with industry professionals, and learn through the multiple classes and workshops offered. You may remember I spoke about my impressions (here, here, and here) as a first-time attendee last year.

It’s a bit of an investment, but one of the greatest ones you’ll ever make if you’re serious about writing Christian fiction. And there’s still time to sign up, but you must do it soon, especially if you’d like the discounted rates.

Last year’s keynote speaker was the fabulous bestselling author Tracie Peterson. This year’s keynote is Michael Hyatt, Chairman of Thomas Nelson and author of the recent bestseller, Platform: Get Noticed In A Noisy World.

I’m so excited about hooking up with my writing pals, some of whom I’ve never met in person yet!

Keli Gwyn, a lovely writer-friend who I met last year, will be at this year’s ACFW conference again, too. Keli’s début, A Bride Opens Shop in El Dorado, California will soon launch and I’m so thrilled for her! Keli was one of the first gals I used to stalk–er, visit–in cyberspace, and she’s still as warm and welcoming as ever. I’ll probably get all weepy again when I hug her neck in September. Yes, I’m a bit sentimental like that.

One final tidbit: I’ll be drawing a winner this Friday, June 29th, in my June blog giveaway. You have this week left to enter and then I’ll start another giveaway for the month of July with new prizes. If you like giveaways, great prizes, and the word “FREE,” then be sure and check out the rules. I love blessing folks and I can’t wait to share some love!

I shall be hugging your neck in September! Even if you’re wearing a cornsock! 🙂 I just bought Word Painting last night. Not sure you need it, you have such beautiful descriptions!

And I finished Story Structure Architect which was brilliant and I learned so much. I’m blogging about it today so I won’t keep gushing!

Jess, I’ll have to check on those two books–thanks for sharing! I popped over to your site (and alas, I’m still unable to comment because I think it has to do with some mysterious “coce-speak” or something), but those books sound like additional must-haves for writers.

And because I really love you, I may just share my cornsock!

I’m sooo looking forward to seeing you again, Cindy. I’m sure we’ll both end up teary-eyed since we’re so sentimental, but that will just add to the experience, right? =)

Thanks for the shout out about my book. I’m actually going to see it for the first time in a few hours. Would you believe I’m just a wee bit excited about that?

I’m so excited to meet you all. I also look forward to meeting my agent in person. It’s going to be a rockin time in Dallas – look out J.R.!!

Patti, though the annual ACFW conference is in mid September, the buzz begins early as anticipation starts to build. Maybe one day I’ll see you there–would so love to add another hug to my list!
