Last weekend we kicked off spring break with a trip to one of our favorite places—Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri.
We love it!
Silver Dollar City is a family owned, Christian oriented theme park nestled deep within the Ozark foothills. This family getaway has it all—rides galore, quaint eateries, shopping venues, singing, variety shows, a cave, and more!
Fireman’s Landing, a wonderful, interactive play area, is the new addition this year. It boasts fun and colorful new rides and various to-dos designed especially with little tykes in mind.
SDC is a place where time stands still, and in fact, takes you back to yesteryear and that sweet time of innocence and simplicity. The park is all about faith, family, fun, and yes—food! (YUM!) Think vintage, nostalgia, and feel good all rolled into one—a delightful, carefree niche that captures the best of the Ozarks and what we’re about.
To save money, we usually purchase season passes each year. When we visit the park, we carry in mondo-sized jugs of water and backpacks full of snacks, wet wipes, a change of clothes, hand sanitizer (though there’s plenty of that scattered throughout the park), sunscreen, sunglasses, and various other essentials.
We wear comfy clothing, hats, and shoes, and we use a generous dollop of sunscreen, remembering to reapply every so often.
I’m not much of a rider, but other family members are. I prefer to people-watch, soak up the glorious atmosphere and venture in and out of the various shops. I also enjoy the culinary school and the candy-making and glass blowing demonstrations.
So—in other words, no worries if you don’t do rides. You’ll be sure to be amused!
And you can always eat!
Now—sit back and enjoy a small snapshot of our day!
There’s big ol’ bins of mouth-watering taffy in every flavor imaginable…
There’s assorted fudges sure to appeal…
Then. There’s. This!
If you stick around long enough, you’re sure to see a peanut brittle-making demonstration. Annnd maybe you’ll even get to sample a bite or two!
(See this post for more about peanut brittle making and a word about faith.)
The lovely ladies pull and stretch the warm, gooey peanut brittle out on a stainless steel table before gently breaking it apart. It smells sooo goood!
They put a lot of heart, soul, and love into that peanut brittle-making. And they top it all off with a smile.
Need a little something to take home to a friend or loved one? No problem! Silver Dollar City’s got you covered.
Plan for crowds. Take your time. Smile. Chill. This isn’t the place for No-No Nancys or Downer Dan’s.
Ever wanted to ride in a balloon? Now’s your chance! (This one’s pretty tame, but you may want to eat after you ride some of the others—especially the roller coasters. )
Don’t let the day get away without taking in a little Christmas. The Christmas Shop is a colorful feast for the eyes!
Here’s one for the chef in your family…
Santa may have sipped a little too much eggnog . What say you?
The golden couple sits at the ready to meet and greet enthusiastic patrons. (Drat. I forgot my Christmas list.)
Our family will make many more trips to Silver Dollar City in the upcoming months. There are festivals for every season and lots more memories to be had!
If you visit my neck of the woods, you should include SDC in your family’s getaway plans. (And don’t forget to put Billy Gail’s Cafe on your must-do list beforehand. Check out this post if you missed it.)

Looks like a slice of heaven! I so love taffy. I love Texas, but if I could move anywhere, I’d probably move to Florida to be able to get season passes to Disney!! 🙂 Your pictures remind me of Disney … the Christmas shop.
