HER HOPE DISCOVERED: Go for Launch! It’s here! Her Hope Discovered (the print edition) officially launched this week—and four days ahead of schedule, too!

While the birth of a book isn’t quite as exciting as that of our first born child, it’s still an extraordinary milestone in an author’s career. (Click-to-Tweet)

Anticipated, yet not without some trepidation and goosebumps, watching our first book release into the world is kind of like seeing our baby take her first breath. We expect it to happen, yet when it does, we sigh with relief, amazed at this great thing God’s done.

The months—years, really—leading up to this event can’t quite prepare us for the newfound giddiness that grips our heart.

All the emotion we’ve held in reserve suddenly bubbles to the surface, spilling over into every facet of ordinary, everyday life. Because, to a writer—now, an author—the milestone we’ve dreamed about is suddenly a reality and one that carries new responsibilities.

It’s a unique rite of passage, this authordom thing. Everything we fantasized about pales in comparison to the real thing. And still, in some respects we feel like a fraud. An author? Who? Me? (Click-to-Tweet)

Though many writers refer to themselves as “author” prior to their book’s release, the title seems a little more real when we view our name beside our book on bookseller sites.

As I watched Her Hope Discovered go up for sale, first as an e-book, then as a paperback, to say the experience was surreal is a little like the doctor saying, “Congratulations, Mom. I’d like you to meet your new daughter.” Or son.

The same elation that coursed through my body and caused me to tremble those long years ago mirrored my reaction to this week’s book baby birth.

The thrill is different, but nonetheless, there.

Toss in a book releasing at the holidays, and you have the perfect recipe for semi-controlled chaos. It’s like the never-ending roller coaster ride…but a complete blast! (Click-to-Tweet)
