Happy Friday, everyone!

Hope this finds you well and looking forward to the weekend! (Help yourself to a slice of that decadent chocolate cake above–yummm!)

I thought it might be fun today to do an end of the week wrap-up. In other words–let’s chit chat about what’s going on in each other’s lives.

Pull up a chair, grab your plate, and shake out your napkin. There. Now you’re ready for some serious visiting. (In the Ozarks, our visits often involve delicious treats and delightful conversation. That’s just how we roll.)

So… How was your week? Anything new, exciting, or different?

There’s been a whirlwind of activity over my way. In between errand-running, kiddo-toting, cooking, cleaning, and appointments, I’ve been living the high life of a writer, of course.

(NOT.)

I’m in the midst of ACFW conference prep and this week flew by fast. I’ve updated One Sheets (mini info sheets of my Welcome to Ruby series), gathered business cards, prepared folders, found a gala dress, glanced over my conference schedule, and completed one hundred other tasks unrelated to writing.

If you write and work from home, you well understand the myriad things that encroach upon our time. Life doesn’t stop. Our families still have to eat, clothes must be washed, toilets cleaned, and day-to-day happenings kept in check. I’ve become a master juggler of late, but whew-wee–am I tired!

I’ve contemplated resuming a three-day-a-week blogging schedule again in late fall, but nothing is set in stone. I went to a Wednesday-Friday schedule last April, and so far, I’ve enjoyed that. It’s freed up my time a bit to focus on some new projects. Over the summer, though, I found I missed that additional day of blogging–connecting with you. I’m going to think about it some more and I’ll let you know what I decide.

Meanwhile, I’ve started some new writing projects that promise to be fun. Those initial stages are always a thrill. Since many of my story ideas revolve around the Ozarks and the wonderful folks who live here, research is always exciting. (My future plan involves kidnapping my sister for a weekend getaway and combining business with pleasure. Love those kinds of trips!)

Now, getting back to conference odds and ends…

If you’re unable to attend the ACFW conference this year, don’t fret! I understand. I’ve been there. And when the timing’s right for you to go, God will provide a way.

If you are attending the conference, here are some funsies you might be interested in:

  • I’ll probably wear a lot of red. (Need I say it? Red IS my favorite color!)
  • I’m hostessing the Guideposts spotlight session. I’m excited! I’ve been a big fan of theirs for many years!
  • I’m serving as a timekeeper this year at editor/agent pitch appoinments. (I’m one of the gals who will keep tabs on time and keep things rolling along in a orderly fashion. You already love me, don’t you?)
  • I’m rooming with three other fabulous ladies (Jessica Patch, Gabrielle Meyer, and Lindsay Harrel) and I can’t wait to hug their necks! …AND there may be some cookies involved, too. I’ll post more on that later.

Until then…I pray your weekend holiday is a safe one filled with faith, family, and fun! Take care and I’ll see you here next Wednesday!

Loved your update, Cynthia, and can’t wait to see you at ACFW. My week has been…busy…and overwhelming…trying to keep my head above water at the moment. But the light at the end of the tunnel is ACFW and all the fun I know it’s going to be. See you there!!

Melissa, I’m looking so forward to seeing you, too! I know things are crazy busy for you just now, but God’s preparing the way for an awesome season ahead! (And just remember: When things get stressed, to SHOP is best!) =)

I wish I were attending the conference, but as a guy…I might be in something of a minority.

Maybe next year. It’s tough, getting away, when you have 25 dogs.

    …unless I took them with me…

Seriously, when I do finally get a chance to show up, my PTSD service dog, Ladron, will probably come too. I’ll be easy to recognize. The guy with the forty-pound red heeler riding on his shoulder.

Andrew, it’s thrilling to see our male memebership growing in ACFW and you’d certainly be a wonderful addition! Maybe next year you can attend.

Wow–25 dogs! What a tender heart you must have. I would love to see what Ladron looks like. Is he the one in your photo?

        Next year for sure!

No, the dog in the photo is Emily – a blue heeler who was deaf and knew ASL. Sadly, she passed away a few years ago.

Ladron is kind of her doppelganger, though…a bit bigger, and red, but with the same expression. And just as bossy! (Ladron’s a girl, too.)

Andrew, I’m sorry to hear about your beloved Emily. I know how difficult it is to lose a pet (friend). Sounds like Ladron’s a great companion, too.

Next year’s conference is back in St.Louis. Until then, Happy Writing!
