Can you believe the first week of December is drawing to a close?

I know. I can’t either.

The holiday hustle and bustle is now officially here!

Despite the frenzy, the sweetest season of peace and goodwill is alive and well here in the Ozarks. I pray it is in your neck of the woods, too.

While life isn’t always good, fair, or kind, Christmas is a time of hope.

Without the birth of our Savior, we wouldn’t anticipate better things to come. Belief in something more, something beyond the tangible would be forever lost in the shuffle of buy buy buy.

Don’t misunderstand—I appreciate the significance of gift giving (after all, the wise men brought gifts to baby Jesus).

I adore the beautiful Christmas trees, the colorful lights, and the festive decorations. I love the fattening once-a-year foods, the Christmas cantatas, and the togetherness of family.

I enjoy The Legend of the Candy Cane by Lori Walburg.

But… the sweetest thing?

The sweetest thing is the season itself.

CHRISTmas.

Just the reverence that word imparts. It really does begin and end with Jesus. (Matthew 1:18-25, Luke 2:1-21)

As I push through the month of December to accomplish goals and work related tasks, I’m drawn to God’s word—the reminder of what matters and the gentle whisper… slow down.

Soon I’ll pause for a holiday blog break.

I’ll love on my family and renew and refresh.

I’ll watch It’s a Wonderful Life and The Little Drummer Boy and a dozen other Christmas favorites.

I’ll reflect on God’s gift to humanity.

And I’ll give thanks for everything the gift of Jesus has made possible.
