Believe Big, Suppress Small

Because we tend to think in the finite, we often sell ourselves short.

It’s safer inside the box. It’s comfortable there. We learn what to expect; we know the well-worn path from A to Z because we’ve traveled it so many times.

It’s fun to watch children navigate life because life in a box hasn’t found them yet. They may play make-believe in old cardboard cast-offs, but they don’t take up residence in them permanently. They live by the creed be, see, and do.

Kids have this innate ability, it seems, to think in broader terms than adults. Their childlike worlds are still full of questions and wonder. They let their imaginations soar with “what if” scenarios. Each day is a new day.

I have to admit that while I still have my comfort zones, I tend to be an outside-of-the-box” thinker. Because of Christ, I believe big. Something that might seem impossible or unheard of is just the sort of thing that Jesus loves to show up in. We may be astounded when the improbable is blown out of the water, but it’s all in a day’s work for our almighty God.

In whatever path we’re negotiating at the moment, I believe it’s crucial that we adopt a believe big, suppress small mentality. Yes, I know it’s hard sometimes. Life is hard. There will be days when we’ll feel sucker punched–days when we’ll wonder what new wrench is yet to be thrown into the mix. These are the times that will take every bit of our resolve to keep pressing on.

Determine to suppress (or better yet, ditch!) small-thinking mentality:

  • Say good-bye to negative influences.
  • Shelve doubts and close the closet door on them.
  • Don’t think “I can’t.” Choose “I will.”

Embrace God’s desire–believe BIG!

  • Utilize your spiritual gifts. (Yes, we all have them!) Get ready to share.
  • Tap into positivity. Be a beacon, not just a nightlight.
  • Be prepared. God likes to move when we least expect it! It’s His specialty.

Once we define our goals and dreams, it’s easier to think beyond a limited mindset. To get the ball rolling, here are my definitions of each:

Goals: Something I try to realistically shoot for with God’s help.

Dreams: Something beyond the scope of the tangible, but completely possible with the One who moves mountains!

How are you preparing for greatness?
