Hello, friend!
Today I wanted to do a little light housekeeping so sit back, relax, and kick your shoes off for a while.
After all, wouldn’t you agree that it’s always fun when someone else does the work? Gives us a chance to pause and catch our breath. Whew!
First, I wanted to mention my newsletter.
If you received yours this week, I hope you enjoyed the encouragement-packed, faith-filled content and that you’ve shared my newsletter with others. I also hope you’ll encourage folks to sign up where they, too, can feel the love.
And—to my new subscribers—welcome! I’m delighted to meet you!
In my newsletters, you’ll find nuggets of hope and inspiration, slice-of-life vignettes, and fun tidbits about the Ozarks. Just like the Heartfelt Homespun Fiction I write, my newsletters have the same feel. The content’s fresh and you’ll rarely see the same thing on my blog. My newsletters are written with you in mind.
And best of all?
You won’t find Downer Dan there. No steal-your-joy content allowed. (There’s what television’s for.)
Now, a reminder—if you just signed up and didn’t make it in time to receive my June newsletter and would still like one, no worries. Here’s a one-time-only treat. Enjoy! (I’ll remove this link in a day or two.)
Not a subscriber yet? (You can become one today! Sign up in the sidebar to your right and my next newsletter—July’s— will go straight to your inbox.)
Okay—enough with the housekeeping. Moving on.
Are you in need of encouragement today? I have just what the doctor ordered. (See this post.)
And you’ll find the Best of the Blog here. Read today or at your leisure.
Additional goodies:
- The Kendrick Brothers (Flywheel, Facing the Giants, Fireproof, Courageous) have a new film releasing in August, and the trailer for War Room looks promising. Gives me chills! I look forward to seeing this one.
- Remember Simple Grace I told you about? I recently received some complementary copies of this new hope-filled magazine (via editor-at-large Nik Lashley—thank you, Nik!), and I must say the magazine is an inspiring treat. Chock-full of easy-to-read devos, lovely visuals, and motivational content, Simple Grace will leave you smiling. It’s small enough to carry in your purse or keep in the glove compartment of your car. Check out their website to preview an issue.
- Best quote of the week spotted on Twitter via Carrie Wilkerson: Pedestals are for cakes, not people. Careful who you position ‘up high’. And you simply must watch Carrie’s podcast (or read the transcript) about labels. Whew-wee! Now, that’s what I call encouragement!
See you back next Wednesday!

When I saw he title of today’s post, I thought you’d taken my dream job…that of a lighthouse keeper.
Looking forward to the Kendricks’ new film; they do quality work.
For what it’s worth, the all-time best Christian movie I’ve ever seen is “Fury”. It’s violent and profane, yes…but the message at its heart is so solidly and explicitly Christian that the first time I saw it, I was stunned. And unlifted.
And…Barb says that when I die all she needs to do if she misses me is watch the movie, as the lead character could well be based on me. As the actor playing him is Brad Pitt, I’m pretty happy about that.
Sorry I’ve been away; been very ill, and had no internet for a few months, save borrowing Barb’s phone.

Andrew, I’ll have to check out Fury. Sounds like it may be out of my comfort zone, but sometimes it’s good to stretch ourselves.
And ohhh, lighthouse keeper! Wouldn’t that indeed be a dream?!
It may be out of your comfort zone – it’s very much what war IS.
But please trust me, if you watch it, and stay to the end. It will sear your soul, and it will give you a deeper hope and love than you will have thought possible.
I cried the first time I saw it, and every time since. It made a part of me whole, that had been shattered, and the pieces lost.
And yes…I would love to tend the light…and slide down the bannister of the spiral staircase that all lighthouses surely have, every day!
