A Day to Try on Kindness

It’s a shame that Valentine’s Day can’t be every day. Indeed, the world would be better for it.

I don’t mean hearts, flowers, and fattening chocolate (though who could argue with that?)

I’m thinking more about our attitudes–the countenance of our spirits. The way we treat others. Our actions, words, and endearments.

What if our souls radiated the same giddiness year ’round as what we project on the one calendar day of the year marked February 14th?

Just imagine what it might be like.

We’d have no need for tissues or handkerchiefs because there would be no tears. No hurtful words.

Smiles would be the order of the day.

Hearts would overflow.

Less stress.

More joy.

Intentional kindness.

How on earth would we get anything done? We’d be so busy being a blessing that our “to do” lists would take a back seat.

Ahhh, but that’s life in a fairytale world.

Of course, “reality” is today. And the rest of the year. And the year after that.

But we still have a choice.

This Valentine’s Day (if only for the day) let’s resolve to extend grace, show mercy, and rise above. Let’s praise, encourage, and bear one another up in love.

It’s a day to try on kindness.

And who knows?

Maybe we’ll like it and create a fifth season.

Oh wow, I can’t even think of the kindest thing, so many people have been kind to me over the years.

I’m not sure what’s going on on V-Day. My husband said not to ask any questions, but I know we’re going to see Beautiful Creatures. I’m excited!

Jess, I wish I’d recorded all the kindnesses that had been extended to me over the years. I bet I could fill book upon book of blessings!

I’ve seen the previews for Beautiful Creatures. Looks suspenseful… (Sounds like you have a great cuddle partner though. 😉 )

Patti, you must put in a chick flick and treat yourself to something chocolatey! (And store up a hug for when your beloved returns.) 🙂

We’re having a quiet family celebration here with BBQ brisket, candles, and cake.

Just recently I was going through a really, really, really rough time. I’ll skip the details. My two oldest daughters and my two Colorado BFFs surprised me with a “We’ve Got Your Back” Party … with all sorts of silly (and encouraging) displays of love.
I even have a banner they made me hanging in my office.
    Kind.
    Loving.
    And unforgettable.

Beth, I’m so sorry you were going through so much. How wonderful of your daughters and friends to come alongside you to encourage and uplift you during your journey. (And what a special banner!)

I believe God has a way of sending us the encouragers we need at just the right time. You’re an encourager to me!
