A state of Thanksgiving

15 Things I’m Thankful For

Cynthia Herron Thankfulness 2 Comments

It hardly seems possible that Thanksgiving is next week.

Next week!

It’s been a busy season and I’ve had a lot of irons in the fire. My mama and a dear aunt had health crises, our teenager had minor dental surgery, there were school events to attend, church functions to help with, and meanwhile—I completed a major writing project and I’m midway through another.

Whew!

Despite the busyness, however, I’m determined to remain thankful.

I find when I concentrate on my blessings, it’s easier to put other life events in context and see them in a different light.

Maybe you do that, too.

I think God allows us to experience the hard stuff and the hectic so we’ll embrace gratefulness—the true state of Thanksgiving.

With that in mind, today I’m focusing on the now.

15 things I’m thankful for…

1.  My salvation.  Without it, life would be pointless. I may write fictional HEA’s (Happily-Ever-Afters), but with Christ I get the real thing. Forever.

2. My family.(My biggest fans.) They cheer me on through thick and thin of this wonderful, crazy writing biz.

3.  My friends. Those loyal pals I know I can always count on despite the circumstance.

4. A well-stocked pantry. Even with those foods I don’t always feel like cooking.

5. Clothing. From my comfortable, old bathrobe to the fancier duds I wear to church.

6. Heat. Especially with our recent string of 10 degree days!

7. A nice home. And may the Lord forgive me when I complain about cleaning it.

8. My home office. My personal hideaway where I can create in solitude.

9. Electricity, indoor plumbing, and the extras I so often take for granted. Being without during past tornadoes and ice storms made me more appreciative.

10. My health. Much heartfelt praise for this one.

11. My agent. My sister in Christ and a tireless champion for her clients.

12. Memories. A poignant connection with the past and an ever-present hope for the future.

13. An active mind. The ability to create.

14. Freedom. To believe, speak, and worship (for now) the way I want in the country I hold so dear.

15. You, dear reader and friend! I appreciate your loyalty and your time. You bless me.

This is just the tip of the iceberg, of course, because my blessings are countless.

Now—a little something to bless you.
