Here in the Ozarks we’ve hit a rainy patch.
Usually by now we’re basking in sunshine and warmth, but this week it’s been rain, rain, rain—with more on the way. (It seems we have Tropical Storm Bill to thank, in part, for our drenching.)
Not to seem ungrateful, but I wish we could share some of our moisture with our friends in drought-stricken parts of the nation. Too much dreariness crashes my party.
Meanwhile, I’m recovering from a nasty bout of acute bronchitis and I’ve left the house once in the last ten days. That’s right—once. To go to the doctor, I might add. Not much slows me down (I’m rarely sick) so it’s been a humbling experience.
And there’s always much to be thankful for. (At the moment—meals, naps, medicine. This blog post.)
Moving on…
When you’re sick, you have to strategically plan your uptime.
Because my energy’s waxed and waned, I’ve tried to make the most of a bummer situation. I’ve used fleeting moments of temporary well-being to my advantage.
Since rain and illness put a dent in my inspiration well, I’ve coaxed my summertime muse awake with everything in my creative arsenal.
- I’m drinking lots. (I should clarify—water, juice, Powerade. Oh—and coffee. But it tastes off.)
- I’m reading. In short snatches and between coughing jags.
- I’m writing. One day—with a 102 degree fever—I cranked out an entire chapter in my latest WIP. I’ll edit later.
- I’m watching old movie classics. Who better than Doris Day to add a little sunshine?
- I’m sifting through photos. Lots of inspiration in those happy memories.
And—of course, I recently managed to clean all three toilets—or “powder rooms” if you prefer. And let’s not forget cooking detail and laundry.
I tip my tissues to my wonderful husband who helped and to our teenager who offered moral support and good cheer. *wink*
Here’s a little something to inspire your summertime muse.
