The Stuff Dreams Are Made Of

Cynthia Herron Encouragement 8 Comments

Do you ever wonder what causes us to keep going? To persevere? To march forward toward the light despite the dark shadows?

Is it ambition? Courage? The prompting of the Holy Spirit?

I believe we all possess “the stuff dreams are made of.”

It’s not so much what we believe about ourselves as it is about God’s truth for our lives.

Each of us has the ability to access it. “It” being the innate potential that God created within us.

If you’re needing a word of encouragement today, then this post is for you.

Regardless of our dreams, whether they be personal goals, professional milestones, or a lifelong desire for something more, we’re not here to live sub par lives. If that were the case, God wouldn’t have messed with humanity in the first place.

But he did take the time for us.

Why?

Because our Heavenly Father had a plan. And though we soiled perfection, His desire for us to live happy, productive lives remains unchanged.

When we fully take that notion in, harness it, and begin to live as Christ intended–free in Him and unfettered by doubt–that revelation can be mind-blowing!

What, then, is the stuff dreams are made of?

  • Faith. The very thing that doesn’t make sense to the world and why should it? It can’t be explained, contained, or put in a box. It’s indescribable.

  • Ability. Not our own. His. We may be weak-willed, simple-minded, or lacking in direction, but God’s at work on the bigger picture. He’s about to turn the mosaic into a masterpiece!

  • Prayer. Heartfelt God time one-on-one. Honest communication with the Creator of dreams.

  • Readiness. An open-armed mindset in preparation of dreams fulfilled. Let’s get our baskets ready!

  • Integrity. The character we display to others during our season of waiting. Not the facades we wear, but the real deal that speaks volumes.

I really needed this today, Cindy. Thank you!

Ability – is the one that sticks with me. I must remember to look beyond my own nose and remember that He is working in the big picture.

Loree, I think when we’re able to realize that He alone is in control, it’s truly an ah-ha moment. So many times we want to sit and fret, but God’s always there saying, “Look, I’ve got this. I really do. Now, trust Me.”

What an uplifting post, Cindy. Your list of what constitutes “the stuff dreams are made of” is wonderful. If we pursue our dreams without them in place, we’re asking for disappointment and discouragement.

My lifelong dream came true this past July when my debut novel was released. I’m so eager to celebration with you when yours does.
