The 25 Tidbit Challenge: Part 2

Cynthia Herron A Bit About Me 8 Comments

In Monday’s post I told you I’d accepted author Beth Vogt’s  fun challenge.

In Beth’s recent blog post, Taking the Challenges: The Letter ‘T’ and Twenty-Five Things About Me, she revealed twenty-five (enlightening!) things about herself and challenged her blog commenters to do the same.

I like challenges like this because (1) It’s a creative blog post idea and (2) challenges like this are fun.

It’s a great way for us to get to know each other better. Folks “bond” when we discover similar traits.

Grab a cup of coffee and a scone and I’ll pick up where I left off on Monday:

11. I LOVE Post-It notes! All colors. I’m not picky. The brighter, the better though. I use them as colorful memos to myself. Often, I use them to highlight spots in my WIP’s.

12. I was a home room mom for both kiddos during their younger school years. My favorite party planning time was Christmas. And yes, when I sent info to parents, I didn’t refer to it as “winter party.” I called it what it was: a “Christmas party” and I also wished each recipient a “Merry Christmas.” I never had one complaint.

13. Once, when I was little, I threw a hairbrush. At the pulpit. While my daddy was preaching. I never did it again.

14. I collect old cookbooks. And gingerbread men. And apple things. I like vintage and nostalgia because it represents my childhood and calls favorite memories to mind.

15. When we were kids, I carried my little sister all the way home after she’d been bitten by a neighborhood dog. I was about nine and she was around four. She was okay, but I cried for hours.

16. I like to wrap gifts. I color-coordinate wrapping paper to match personalities.

17. My idea of a relaxing weekend or a lazy winter day: sacked out at home in my comfy sweats with my “to be read” pile and a stack of old movies.

18. Favorite candle scent: sugar cookie. Lilac is a close second.

19. I’m somewhat crafty. I enjoy making corsages.

20. I don’t watch horror movies. Unless you count the really old Vincent Price or Boris Karloff flicks. That’s about as creepy as I can tolerate.

21. Helping others makes me happy. It’s a way to share the love of Jesus.

22. I rarely eat fast food. Sometimes, I fall off the wagon, but I really don’t care for the pressed chicken parts touted as “100 % all white meat.” Besides, I prefer a kinder, gentler kind of chicken. Like the real thing, for instance.

23. I used to play the handbells at church.

24. Scrabble is my favorite board game. But if we’re talking cards, it’s UNO.

25. What I dislike the most: snakes, wasps, and rodents of any kind. And oysters on the half-shell even though they’re dead. Just can’t do ’em.

Now, I’d like to invite you to take the 25 Things About Me challenge. I can’t wait to find out more about you!

What a fun post, Cindy. Loved learning new things about you. I have such a hard time imagining you hurling a hairbrush at your pastor daddy, but it’s easy to think of you choosing wrapping paper to go with a friend or family member’s personality.

Oh, I was going to ask the “why” of the hairbrush incident. Funny that you forgot that part — but not the follow-up.
And handbells — you played those. I love the sound of handbells.
Oh — and Vincent Price? He scares me to death. I walked past a woman recently who had a tattoo of Vincent Price on her calf.
    Now why … ?

Beth, I guess Vincent Price seems mild compared to today’s villians, but when I was little, just his voice caused me to shiver! Wow, that must have been one devoted fan to want his mug tatooed on her leg…

Loree, good ol’ number 13–haha! Yes, I can laugh about it now, too. Sort of.

What kind of cookbooks do you collect? Some of my favorites (circa 1940s and 50s) really bring a smile to my face. Something about Suzy Homemaker in her frilly apron, hose, and heels slicing a delectable “ham loaf” cracks me up. On the other hand, I think the cookbooks represent a bit of nostalgia and warm, fuzzy notions. (And really, there are some great recipes!)

How sweet that you carried your sister home. That may have been more comfort to her than you know. My sister-in-law has a gift for gift-wrapping, too–always too pretty to open.
I don’t care much for winter, but you have me longing for one of those days! Scrabble seems to be a popular game among writers. Fun post, I may have to try this soon.
