I think as writers, it’s only natural that we project a certain amount of ourselves into the stories we create. It’s what sets us apart from fellow authors. Some may refer to it as voice, writing style, or even vision.
While I have many favorite authors I greatly admire, it’s important to me to stay true to myself and write what I know, what I feel, and what I’m good at. Therefore, I don’t intentionally set out to emulate anyone, and that’s why it was a bit of a challenge for me to make market comparisons within my book proposal recently.
By nature, I’m a simple person. I spoke briefly about this in an older post, Beauty In Simple Things. (Truly, it’s those simple things, the otherwise overlooked things, that bring me profound joy!)
I thought today I would share with you some other “simple” things I enjoy:
- The delicious aroma of freshly brewed coffee
- Sunny days
- Bookstores
- Children’s smiles
- Sunrise at the beach
- The word “Mama”
- The majestic Ozarks
- Old movies
- Peonies
- Family time
- Snickerdoodles
- Hugs
- Freshly laundered bath towels
- Fall color
- Baby animals
- Silver Dollar City
- Scented candles
- Worship music
- Crayons
- Romance (Of course!)
These are just a few of my favorite things. What are yours?

I love your list, most of which would be included on my own.
I do enjoy: sunsets and sunrises, the song “These are a Few of
my Favorite Things,” antique children’s books, old movies
(grew up watching ’em), peonies are my favorite flowers,
chocolate (preferably dark), a clean house, fresh sheets on
my bed, the sound of my children laughing, the sound of
crashing waves, Joy FM (local Christian radio station), and
warm days with a cool breeze, and rummaging through antique
stores.

There are so many things I left off that list, Tanya, but I feel I must add: I enjoy connecting with fellow bloggers! : )
Happy writing to you today, friend!
Thanks, Cynthia. I agree, and a happy and productive day
to you too. 🙂
I also enjoy many of the items you listed, and would like to add: sleeping in my own bed (especially after being away from it), finding God’s fingerprints on the “ordinary,” leisurely evening walks with my hubby (unfortunately, most of them are fast-paced to get the cardio benefit), finding someone’s lost cash in my flower bed when weeding. The last item only happened once, but it’s enough to motivate me to keep pulling weeds! lol
