Silver Linings

Despite the clouds sometimes, the sky is so beautiful!

When I see white tufts of cotton against the backdrop of blue sky, I immediately begin to daydream and I wonder about what’s contained within.

Some clouds will bring raindrops.  Others will give way to sunshine.  A few will bless us with silver linings (with the Lord’s help, of course.)

Writing is such a solitary world that, occasionally, I’ll glance out my office window to remind myself that there is indeed life beyond my computer screen.

I’ll notice the pine trees swaying in the breeze or a robin searching the grass for breakfast.  Casting my eyes upward, I might see remnants of a rainbow stretching along the eastern horizon.

I’ll also marvel at the clouds, each one differently shaped, perhaps, waiting to tell a story.

I’ll allow myself a few necessary moments of distraction, then I get back to work as I realize that it’s up to me to roll those clouds away for my characters periodically.

In the novels I write, the main characters are each searching the skies—the clouds—for their own silver linings.  Sometimes they try to create them on their own, not always realizing that silver linings can’t be manufactured at their beck and call.

Silver linings aren’t man-made, but God-created.  And just like in the stories I write, in “real life” we sometimes have to be reminded of this, as well.

I pray you’ve had a blessed week and one that’s held a few silver linings!

Note:  I have decided to discontinue my Saturday posts and go to a five-day-a-week format.  See you back here on Monday!

A question for you to ponder…

What “silver linings” have come your way lately?

Beautiful post. I have always loved watching clouds, especially when a storm is rolling in. I agree about the manufacturing the silver linings in our lives. It can be hard to be patient and wait for God in His good timing on thing, and our culture now is so used to instant gratification. I think taking Saturday off as well is a great idea. Have a good weekend. 🙂

Good thought on instant gratification, Tanya, which is so prevalent in today’s world. And to add to that, I think God withholds folks’ “silver linings” sometimes until we prove we can be good caretakers of what He intends to bless us with.
