By now, we’ve eaten our fair share of turkey, potatoes, and pumpkin pie.
Dinner guests have come and gone, Black Friday is but a memory, and November waved good-bye with a 30 degree temperature drop.
One major holiday down and one more to go. Ahhh.
This past Thanksgiving was a poignant one for our family. It was the first major holiday we’ve celebrated since the passing of my father-in-law.
He was missed.
As so often the case with stages of grief, some moments seemed surreal while others brought fragments of closure.
Christmas will be another milestone as we continue to navigate new territory. It’s a bittersweet season.
As 2014 winds to a close, I’m pressing forward to complete some goals
There’s the major office re-do that’s still in a state of transition. The manuscript I’d like to finish within the next two months. Blog post ideas to flesh out. And in the meantime—Christmas prep and more holiday shopping.
Toward the end of December, I’ll take a blog break as I spend time regrouping and celebrating our Savior’s birth. Until then, I look forward to connecting with you here MWF. (And tomorrow, Tues. 12/02/14, I’m guest-posting on the ACFW blog so I’d love it if you stopped by and said hello! Spoiler: I’m talking joy!)

Cynthia, I’m sorry you’re going through this sense of loss. I fully understand. Keep your heart on God. He will pull you through. May your Christmas be joyous.

Elaine, thanks so much for your kindness!
Please keep my mother-in-law in your prayers, too, as she grieves. As you know, it’s a process.
You got it!
We spent Thanksgiving at our daughter’s. No mashed potatoes and gravy this year–I’m eyeing your photos. OK, ogling them. I can almost taste it! The ham looks good, too. There is a lot to do between now and the end of the year, especially when one has been in denial that Christmas is coming. 😉 Big hugs to your family as you adjust to the loss of your father-in-law.
