Office Re-Do Update

Much-needed office supplies!

Much-needed office supplies!

Gracious! Friday, already? Yay!

I don’t know about you, but Friday is the highlight of my week. Especially this week. I’ve had appointments every day, and I’m ready for some down time. Except… do writers ever really “do” downtime?

You may remember (a few months ago) I told you about my office re-do. Well, I’m still in the midst of it. I’ve had some distractions, projects, and appointments, including writing thrown in the mix and that has slowed down my progress a wee bit.

I’m snatching bits and pieces of time to work on my office, but alas, it’s a slow process. I’ll show you a few teasers before the big reveal in a few weeks…

One of my favorite scriptures...centered right over my desk.

One of my favorite scriptures…centered right over my desk.

I’ve decided to leave the seashore border since I’m really quite fond of it. (Pay no attention to that pesky cobweb. It’ll come down. Eventually.) I (or rather my darling husband) added the scripture design I purchased at 50% off from my favorite craft store.

I’ll be adding an extra desk lamp, but these work nicely for now. Perched high on my new bookshelf, they set the tranquil tone I’m looking for. To the right is the smoky blue window scarf I just love. By the way, if you’d like to dress up a ho-hum window, scarves are an inexpensive, yet elegant way to do it.

New dry erase board. Love it!

Ye old floor lamp is trying to horn in on the action, but he will be leaving soon and I couldn’t be happier. My new dry erase board has stolen my heart! I’ve always wanted one to jot down favorite scriptures, daily affirmations, and reminders. And, at two-and-a-half by one-and-a-half feet, it’s just the perfect size. Not too big–not too little. I think every writer should have one.

Foldable foot stool

Another handy-dandy item is my cute, little polka dot foot stool. It slips right under my desk and it’s great for tired, aching feet. Since writers do quite a bit of sitting, I recommend every writer have one. Keeping our feet elevated is a good way to prevent blood from pooling around the ankles. This foot stool I actually purchased some time ago from T.J. Maxx, but I believe this is something most of their stores keep in stock year ’round. My foot stool was pretty inexpensive–under $12.

What's an office without a great chair?

What’s an office without a great chair?

Since I’m in my office most of the day, a good chair is a must! I’m pretty hard on chairs so I may upgrade around Christmas to one with even better lumbar support. This one came from my fave office supply store.  Notice the sweater? My office is downstairs and it can get a little chilly in the winter. The sweater was my beloved Nana’s. It’s comfy and warm, and I think she’d be tickled to know I often wear it as I write.

My new laptop to accompany my desktop computer...Be still, my heart!

My new laptop to accompany my desktop computer…Be still, my heart!

Annnd…that’s my new laptop charging in the floor. I love my desktop computer, but I finally have the best of both worlds. I’m already loving the idea of getting away from ringing phones with my new best friend.

I’m hoping to have my office re-do complete after the ACFW conference, but we’ll see. I detest disorganization and clutter so I’m looking forward to having my workspace restored as soon as possible. It’s just that other things have had to take precedence. You know how it is. *sigh*

So, while I’ve accomplished a lot in the last two months, my cave isn’t “quite there” yet.

But…when it is, I’ll post more photos because  I can’t wait to show you the finished project! My new desk and filing cabinets (that my beloved spent 18+ hours putting together) are incredible! Think lots of little nooks and crannies, cubbies, and drawers–all done in an antique white with silver hardware. It definitely says “beach” and sparks my creativity.

    Cynthia,
Thanks for sharing the updates on your office re-do! This has been on my mind this week. I have spent more than one writing break looking at pictures of home offices. I love gathering treasures to make mine just a little more creative or functional!

Carol, here’s to treasure hunts! *clink* (My coffee mug to yours!) I’ve found several wonderful goodies at local flea markets and out-of-the-way shops. When we writers hibernate in our offices day in, day out it’s so inspiring to see beauty in our own little creative space.

Thanks so much for stopping by! (You’re rocking the blue and red, BTW.) 🙂

Love the glimpses of your office re-do, Cynthia. The colors are beautiful. I just put two white boards on the backs of my office doors so I can brainstorm and then look at what I thought up while I’m writing. White boards and colored markers — love ’em!

Your new desk looks fabulous (from what I could tell). I like the blues you are using. Can’t wait to see the finished project. I know how long it takes to accomplish things when life goes on as usual, which is a good thing, really. At least you can see your new items! Praises for hubbies who assemble things for us.

Patti, my darling husband is the king of easy-to-assembles! LOL I’m loving my new desk and I can’t wait to do the “big reveal” in a month or so!

The desk is lovely and I like the blues, too. I’m using an eclectic mix of favorite items that spirit me away (temporarily) to the beach. =)
