Love Is Bloomin'

Why is it that when spring is in the air, our hearts seem a little lighter, our minds not as encumbered by the darker days of winter?

Everything is gently coaxed awake to thrill us with vibrant color.  Even the grass that will soon need its first trimming offers a visual treat!  The birds start singing at five a.m., and the earth begins to shake off its lingering weariness as the sun makes her debut a little earlier each day.

I am more inspired to write, and I’m able to concentrate a bit more clearly.

There’s something about spring that engages us.  We tend to reflect upon things with a new perspective, a sharper focus, and a brighter outlook in general.  A new emotion comes calling, too, with the ushering in of spring.  Love.

I’m passionate about writing, particularly about matters of the heart.  Of course, that’s why I write what I do–women’s fiction with romantic elements.  I especially like to craft a story around real-life events that can and do happen.  It’s important that the characters in my novels not fall in love too soon, because as anyone knows, immediate gratification is not always conducive to growth.  Plus, it’s boring, and that’s not reality.  People rarely reach goals or desired outcomes without some drama, trauma, or tension and conflict along the way.  (If you have, then I wanna know your secret!)

In the series that I’m creating, I write homespun, heartfelt stories revolving around small-town life and colorful characters.  Their tales aren’t purely namby-pamby, feel-good sugar, but rather, a recipe of a little bitter along with the sweet.  Think a modern-day Mayberry meets yesteryear suburbia.  Huh? you say.

Let me explain.  In other words, I plan to tackle it all–love, sex, purity, secrets, challenges, the good, the bad, and the ugly–just from a Christian perspective.  If certain characters are struggling in their walk with Christ, or if they haven’t yet made a decision to follow the Lord, they may sometimes use coarse language or make poor choices.  It will be up to others along the way to guide them, nurture them, and introduce sunnier paths.  What you won’t find in my books:  gratuitous violence, pornographic love scenes, or language that profanes my Savior’s name.  I’ve said all of this before, but I believe it bears mentioning again.  I make no apologies.

Now, I’m off to write about my favorite subject and all the complications that go with it!  Hope love is blooming wherever you’re at today!

A question for you to ponder…What’s your favorite love story and why?

There you go again, taxing my brain. 🙂 Of course the one God wrote is the best of all; but I’m going to jump off the cliff here and say a favorite is “Love Story,” written by Erich Segal. It came out when I was teen, and very impressionable, I suppose. The couple did not have an easy life, or happy ending, but the love between Oliver and Jenny was so strong. That is what I remember most.

The Princess Bride. Wesley and Buttercup were almost certainly useless to each other after they rode off into the sunset, but ahhhhhh, that sunset! I’ve always liked the fairytale love stories best. The ones that end with true love and never have to figure out who takes out the trash or cleans the toilet.

I love “happily ever after” stories also! It’s even more satisfying when the couple involved has weathered a few storms along the way and they come to realize they are better together then apart! One of my recent favorite love stories/movies is the Hallmark movie, “The Magic of Ordinary Days.” It’s something the entire family can watch.
