To add a little “feel good” to the close of your work week, I thought it might be fun to share some kitty selfies with you.
Besides—I’m tired, you’re tired, and this won’t take much effort. (How’s that for the truth?) =)
Sit back, relax, and enjoy! Prepare to meet Miranda—our (almost 10 pound) feline companion.
We adopted this sweet little girl several months ago after Christmas. I first introduced you to her here.
Well, Miranda’s come a long way since those early get-to-know-you days. Where there was once a shy, reserved scaredy-cat, we now have a confidant, little live wire on our hands!
We were never cat people until Miranda so we’re still learning some things. Like for instance—Miranda enjoys her cat naps (after she’s run us ragged, of course!)
We’ve also learned:
- Cats blink a lot. I think it’s their way of communicating.
- Cats like to give “love bites.” Miranda’s are very gentle—her way of giving us “kitty kisses.”
- Cats nip a little more firmly sometimes. Like when (a) they want to play and (b) when they want to be left alone.
- Cats sleep. A lot. Miranda takes several shorter naps throughout the day, but thankfully, dozes for longer increments at night.
- Cats—at least ours—like “their people.” I was under the impression they were loners. Miranda prefers to be in the same room with us or close by where she can observe us from a short distance. There are exceptions to this—like when she wants a longer nap.
Miranda has a very distinct personality. She likes to play, explore, and create mischief. (Most of the time she’s careful to keep her claws retracted, but sometimes when she’s really wound up she’ll forget. Despite this, we’ve decided not to declaw her. And yes—my furniture and rugs have taken a few hits. *sigh*)
Still, considering the cat that once hid out in our shower stall, now our home is her oyster. She roams wherever her little heart desires—which is pretty much the entire house.
Miranda likes to sleep on our bed with us at night. I’m sure this is a bad habit we’ve gotten into.
She has a very good internal clock, too. She knows when it’s time for our daughter to go to school. She watches for me when I come home. She understands certain times of the day signify “meal time.”
Miranda also exhibits some strange—er—unique behaviors. Like, for instance—very early we introduced her to a two feet long shoelace (my husband snipped off the dangerous plastic ends and tied them in knots.) Miranda will meow loudly and carry her shoelace to one of her kitty beds—you know, the fancy ones she never sleeps in. She’ll then proceed to knead said bed with shoelace in tow sometimes for a minute or sometimes for a full five.
She’ll alternate between meowing and purring as she does this. She doesn’t seem distressed. In fact, she appears contented—like this behavior or action provides comfort somehow. (I’ll try to get a photo of this when I post another Miranda update. The one I took is rather grainy.)
Here are some other fun shots of Miranda in her element:
Hope you’ve enjoyed this walk down Miranda-Lane!
Because of the holiday I’m taking a blog break on Monday, but I’ll see you back on Wednesday.
Be safe, friends!

I LOVE Miranda!
Thank you for sharing her.
Yesterday our new Rottie, the one who’s a master of “give me a hug”, learned “you aren’t going anywhere until I say so”.
He sat on me, smiling a big happy smile.

Ahhh! That’s progress, Andrew! I would like to have seen that!
Hello! Well, I love Miranda! I love how cats sleep with their tongues hanging out!! You can’t resist grabbing it. 🙂
We had two cats, but we had to put one to sleep back in March (right after my surgery … awful time). So now we are down to one. He’s having a rough time. He misses his sister. They were Aslan and Lucy (from Narnia). We call him Azzie. My middle grade book that I’ve been working on is about them (this may be one that remains tucked away … my learning curve … but I’ll put it in book form for my girls to have as keepsakes!). Azzie wants to play in the night … one of my daughters has a rough time sleeping because he always wakes her up. 🙂 Ugh.
You are a joy, Cynthia!

Shelli, thank you—you are so kind!
I remember you talking about your precious Lucy… My heart still grieves for you, my friend. Please know I continue to lift you up in prayer. Perhaps, the Lord will send another companion to round out your family. Not as a replacement for the one you lost, but as a new addition that will bring happiness in other ways. (((HUGS)))
