Hello, friend—So happy you stopped by!
I hope the summer’s treating you well and that you’re able to take a brief respite from the heat. In the Ozarks where I’m at, I don’t mind telling you—it’s HOT. Yesterday it was a not-so-pleasant ninety-eight degrees with a heat index of 107. OH. My. Word. *please pass the sweet tea*
Key things to remember?
Hydrate, rest when able, and whatever you do, don’t forget your sunscreen and sunglasses.
Now, for a few moments, settle back and enjoy these words of encouragement from my new friend Kass Fogle. (BTW do you know where your sunglasses are? THAT, my friend, is called a “hint.”)
Share with us, Kass!
Does God use small things to teach us big lessons?
For instance, have you ever taken something simple and twisted it into a complex web of confusion?
Recently, my husband left his sunglasses on top of his car and drove off down the road. When I left for work, I saw them smashed to smithereens and immediately knew he could not work all day under a blistering sun without them.
I had a choice: buy my husband a pair of new glasses and walk into the office a little late or head to work because he is a grown man and knows how to buy his own replacements.
Doubts tugged at me. I have the flexibility with my work hours and can take the time to do something nice for my husband, but should I?
What if I shouldn’t visit the job site? What if they were my son’s glasses and not his?
Ten other doubts pulled me from doing a good deed for my husband.
I twisted one simple decision into a complex web of doubt. Over something so simple. (I do it all the time.) (Click-to-Tweet)
But with each what if, I heard Doesn’t matter. Just go.
What if he stopped and got his own? Doesn’t matter. Just Go.
What if he had a spare in his work truck already? Doesn’t matter. Just go.
But God, we are taught to consult you about everything. How will it look if I walk in late?
What will ‘the guys’ think about wifey poo bringing him glasses? I don’t want to screw it up over something so simple. You already took the simple out of it. Just GO!
Of course, God wants us to put Him first. This is our reminder-> But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Matthew 6:33 (KJV)
But he also wants us to pray at all times so when life’s less complicated matters arise, we don’t complicate them and lack faith.
We’re to give every moment to the Lord and he will guide our path, even when we think it may not matter.
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Proverbs 3:5-6 (KJV)
Call it a first-world problem, a dramatization or simple anxiety, but we do tend to fret over the little stuff. And it’s exactly opposite of the hope and love He wants for us each day. (Click-to-Tweet)
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. Philippians 4:6 (KJV)
So did God use a pair of broken sunglasses to help me focus on what mattered?
I chose to go. I drove to the gas station and purchased a cheap pair of polarized sunglasses and a pack of mints. With the morning sun beaming through my window, I headed fifteen minutes in the opposite direction to my husband’s job site.
I turned off the radio.
The tiny rows of beans and corn on either side of the road raced by as I set the cruise control and talked to God.
God you are in all things. Even this tiny one. This may not even be on your radar. If this was not the right thing to do, correct me. If it was the right thing to do, I’m thankful. In either way, bless the time to your glory.
When I arrived at his job site, he was already wearing sunglasses.
But I got a kiss. My first kiss since he started leaving the house at 4:30 AM for work.
Later that night he told me how much it meant that I had stopped by because it had been a really crummy week.
I’d say I made the right choice.
Lesson learned?
Don’t be afraid to pray daily for the wisdom of heaven. Be armed to handle daily messes so you can meet them head on in faith and truth.
Let God use your situation to bring Him glory.
He used smashed sunglasses to seal a bond between my husband and me that renewed my vision and increased my faith. (Click-to-Tweet)
To Him be the glory for that blessing.

Wow. What a great lesson that God is in all things—from small to complex. Thanks, Kass, for the gentle reminder.

Kass, so happy have you! Thank you for sharing and for spending the day with us. Every time I slip on my sunglasses I’ll think of your story.
Such a sweet, uplifting post. Thank you, Kass and Cynthia. Just what I needed to start my morning off right. Now to find that ice cold tea. Unsweetened for me, though. Have a great day, ladies!
Hi Laura and thank you for taking a moment visit the post. Your comment blesses me and I am so glad you enjoyed it. Have a wonderful weekend. Kass
Hello Kass, we’re a military family and my husband was recently away for a three month training course. My two adult children both have Down Symdrome and missed their dad like crazy. One morning at breakfast my daughter brought her cereal bowl over to the table with a huge grin on her face. She’d taken raspberries and blueberries and made a “happy face “ on top of her Cheerios. She said, “Look Mommy! I made a smiley face! Take a pic to send to Dad so I can make him smile too!”
A small thing that blessed her dad and I in a BIG way. God gives us all many of these moments every day. We just have to be open-minded and have open hearts to receive them!
Laurie, Thank you for sharing such a treasured moment with all of us. You are spot on! I pray we all open our hearts to receive these tiny blessings. I appreciate your comments and kindness. Have a blessed week. – Kass
