Happy Friday!
Aren’t you glad the weekend’s finally here? (I think that deserves a sweet treat, don’t you?)
This week’s flown by in a hurry and it’s been jam-packed with errands and various things that kept me running.
And now…
My neck of the woods is bracing for its next predicted ice event. (Blech!)
We’ve made sure we’re stocked up on ice melt, batteries, groceries, and water. We’ve learned over the years to keep gallons of extra water on hand because if power outages occur, our well pump and pressure tank obviously won’t work.
The longest power outage we had was in 2003 when we lost power for about five days, but that was due to a devastating tornado. Other outages since then haven’t lasted as long, but the weather has made believers out of us and we’ve learned to prepare.
On another note, I tackled some writing projects this week that needed attention. You may remember I mentioned that last week. I’m still working on some of those, so with our impending ice storm, it’ll be a great incentive to hang close to home and write. (And I’m really praying we don’t lose electricity!)
I wanted to share some great links seen recently:
- For my writer friends, my agent talked about word count range you should strive for in various genres. (Very helpful and informative!)
- Author Jody Hedlund shared a Quick 5-Point Checklist for Writing a Scene.
- Check out Editor Jamie Chavez’s thoughts on the importance of plot within a romance. (A word: if you’re a writer, you should be following this gal. Jamie’s a developmental editor who knows the writing and publishing biz inside out. Explore her old blog posts, friends–you’ll learn tons of great info.)
- Want to know how to balance writing and life? Don’t miss this super post by author and social media guru Kristen Lamb. Kristen talks about “finishers” versus perfection.
- This gem (How Do You Stay Pure in this Tar-feathered Place?) by Savory Thots spoke about purity. Simple eloquence all rolled into one. This young woman nailed it. Check it out.
And…

Hope your weekend’s super!

What are your weekend plans?
What was the best part of your week?
Honest opinion–do you like the lighter color font on this post? (I’m experimenting.)

Um…the font…darker would be better, at least for me.
I’ll check out those writing sites – thanks for posting them!
Hope the ice doesn’t hit you too badly. We’re coping with temperatures around 70, and sunshine. It’s a trial, but someone has to set an example of endurance.
This weekend…hmmm. Might bake another gluten-free pie (my first attempt last week was improbably successful). Have to keep working on old airplane parts.
And recover from pesticide poisoning. Made me glad I’m not a bug.

Andrew, so thankful you’re recovering! We always spray our foundation outside every few months because living out where we do, lots of eight-legged creatures want to make their way in occasionally. And my husband sprays our walk-out basement at the same time. There is a mild odor so he does this at night so the smell can dissipate by in the morning. How ever did you catch pesticide poisoning?
Thank you for letting me know what you think about the font color–I appreciate your honesty! As I mentioned in my comment to Melissa, I always have to remember to darken the font color because the default goes right back to the lighter color anyway. I’m looking for ways (albeit small ones) to save time. *sigh* Decisions, decisions.
And I’m glad you’re not bragging about your pleasant weather. Because you know what the Lord says about braggarts! Lol “Endure” a little for me, too. Okay?
Bragging? Who, ME? You should have known me when I lived in San Diego. I was insufferable.
How the poisoning…a half-filled bag of pesticide powder fell off a shelf and landed on my head. Got my head stuck inside it. Kind of like a lethal version of America’s Funniest Home Videos.
Almost pegged out a couple of nights ago. It got a bit hard to breathe, so I sort of stopped. I don’t want to repeat that.
Puking blood has been the worst.
Pesticides, in limited amounts, aren’t a hazard. But wear a bag of it as a hood, and yeah, you’ll have problems.

Andrew! The picture I have in my mind! Take. Care. Of. Yourself!
I will, Cindy.
And please feel free to use me as a character! I’d be glad to help that process, and answer any questions. It would be fun.
But an even better character would be my PTSD service dog, Ladron. She’s a red heeler, and the bossiest thing on four legs. Her nickname is Cruise Director.
She tells me when I can work, and when I must rest. She’ll hide tools to enforce rest. She tells me when I need to go to bed at night, and when I’m permitted to rise in the morning. If I read instead of trying to sleep, she’ll pull the book out of my hands.
She organizes the other dogs, too. You! Go to your crate! You! Time for a walk! NOW!
I’ll have to check out some of those links.
My weekend plans can be summed up in one word: Writing. I’m woefully behind, so I’m praying I can make good progress (finally!!) this weekend. The best part of my week included conversations with friends and family…I’ve been in my own world a bit lately, so catching up with several different people has been nice.
And yeah, I like the lighter font, although I didn’t exactly notice it until you mentioned it…which probably means it’s a nice, but not overly drastic change.

Melissa, I love my social media hang-outs and catching up with friends is so much fun! BUT… I’ve found I must be a little more proactive with my time and really limit myself or writing just won’t happen.
Thanks so much for your input on the font color. (Although Andrew has a different take. =) ) I like it better, too–and it’s a chore when I edit and return to my original post because my site settings want to change it back to the lighter font anyway. I have to always remember to “bold” it to get the darker color. Most of my pages are the lighter shade, too, and I think it looks best that way really. Ohhh… what to do? haha
Definitely go with the darker font…
Andrew, good grief, he needs 24 hour surveillance.
Annnnnnnnnd Cindy?
This blog has quickly become my comfy couch.
Author
Jennifer, thank you for the compliment! That’s exactly how I want folks to feel when they stop by. And thanks for your input on the font shade! (You know I’m a fan of unbridled honesty.)
Yes… about Andrew. I think I’m going to use him as one of the characters in a future book. *Ahem* I mean someone like him, that is. That wit–that style–and that point-blank tell-it-like-it-is persona. Ahhh. Keeps us on our toes, for sure!
I like the softer font with your theme, but the darker is easier to read. My Saturday hasn’t gone as planned, but it was even better. My 13-year-old granddaughter called me on FaceTime, so I got to visit with her and most of the rest of the family.

Face time! My husband and I get a kick out of using it in the house. Lol So happy that you were able to visit with your granddaughter.
I know what you mean–I like the lighter font better, too (I think it works best with the feel of my website), but the darker shade is easier on the eyes. I’ll play around with it some more. Thanks!
