As Holy Week draws to a close, I wanted to pause for a moment and consider this poignant time of tragedy and triumph.
For some, the holiday means little more than Easter eggs, baskets, and goodies. For Christians, we understand that’s surface stuff—fun and fluff secondary to the real celebration.
When our kids were little, each received an Easter basket, though we always placed emphasis on the true message of Easter.
We taught our children about Jesus, His ultimate sacrifice, and how our Savior overcame and conquered the grave.
In our home, Easter will always be cause to celebrate.
Yesterday, we dyed a few Easter eggs. Tomorrow we’ll attend Sunday worship services. Afterward, we’ll gather for a traditional Easter dinner, but all the while we’ll hug joy close to our hearts and be ever-mindful of the One who gave it all.
Today, as you go about your Easter prep, maybe your energy’s lagging. Maybe you could use a pick-me-up.
Sometimes, the simplest suggestions can lead to new victories. Consider these seven ways to refocus.
1. Start now. Prepare your heart. Beginning today, don’t fret the small stuff. (Matthew 6:25-34, Philippians 4:4-7)
2. Give something away. Make sure it’s your best. A treasure. An heirloom. Something of great value. (John 3:16)
3. Forgo the noise. Choose hope. Watch The Waltons: An Easter Story (Season One). (Isaiah 40:28-31)
4. Color your world. Extend kindness. Add value. Do the uncomfortable. (Galatians 5:22-26)
5. Increase your faith. Take that first step. Do something that doesn’t make sense to others. (Luke 17: 5-6, Hebrews 11:1, James 5:13-16)
6. Bless others. Serve. Prepare a meal. Mow a lawn. Pay a bill. Share your faith. (Matthew 28: 19-20, 1 Corinthians 12:4-11)
7. Live a story. Start at the beginning. Work the middle. Anticipate the end. (Genesis through Revelation)
