Daydream Believer

Many years ago, there used to be a commercial with a famous tagline.  It was “Calgon, take me away!”  I think it always centered around a woman soaking in a soothing bubble bath surrounded by a sea of–what else–bubbles!

For a long time, I’d hear people actually quoting that commercial at the end of a particularly stressful day.  It was a commercial that was the product of a great marketing campaign.  I don’t know what the actual sales figures were, but I bet they were out the roof.  Folks still remember today what became an iconic product slogan.

Wow!  Wouldn’t it be awesome if we could sometimes close our eyes and be whisked away in our daydreams to the sweet land of Calgon?!

I don’t know about you, but as a writer, I sometimes find myself caught up in the day-to-day grind of life, and I occasionally allow my mind to wander.  It’s not healthy to always stay plastered in a chair in front of a keyboard and monitor 24/7.  I have to get up and stretch periodically, take a Starbucks break, or simply lean over and glance out my office window.  As much as I love to write and create, it’s important I allow myself to daydream from time to time, too.

Here’s what I daydream about:

  • The Beach  (I adore it!)
  • Attending the ACFW conference in September
  • A publisher for Book 1
  • Completing all three books within my series
  • Having a girls day out, complete with nails, hair, shopping, and seafood!
  • A romantic dinner with my hubby while on a two-week Caribbean cruise
  • No more war
  • Churches filled to capacity and overflowing
  • Meeting Karen Kingsbury (and several of my other fave authors)
  • My first book signing

I’m a believer in dreams, daydreams, and Divine Intervention.  I think God equips us with the tools necessary to become successful in seeking our hearts’ desires.  (I believe the power of the mind is one of the greatest gifts God gives us.)

Here’s what I’ve practiced for years:  I visualize my goal–be it a dream, daydream, etc.  I close my eyes and see myself actually working toward it, living in the moment of it.  I even know what colors I’m wearing and what clothing I have on.  I imagine Christ as my cheerleader, with Him coaching…Come onJust a little bit farther now.  You’re almost there.  You can do it!

I watch the rest of the dream unfold in my mind until I reach my destination.  Ahhh…Success!

And you want to know something?  This has actually worked for me many times throughout the years.  Give it a try!

Questions for you to think about…Are you a daydream believer?  What are your daydreams?

Dreams can be powerful motivators. I remember the thrill when I dusted off my dream of being a writer five years ago and splashed my first story on the page.

I’m a huge fan of Calgon and let it “take me away” every night as I soak in a hot tub while enjoyed a couple chapters of a romance novel. 🙂

Yes, I can sooo relate, Keli, about the thrill of writing! I’ve had several life detours so the fact that it’s finally coming to fruition is all the more sweet.

I’m excited about your new book release! I’ll probably not want to open it in a bubble bath though…I’m a bit clumsy… : )

Ms. Cynthia, I got your link through Ms. Patti’s (http://pattisjarrett.wordpress.com/2011/05/10/inspiration-monday-xi-sun-sets-curtain-rises/) here on wordpress and am very impressed by your talent. I would be honored if you could drop by my own pages (http://1wordywoman.wordpress.com/) sometime if when you have a few free moments and let me know what you think of my own somewhat humble efforts. I am going to put you on “follow”, for I like your writing and also due to your being a Christian, just as Ms. Patti is.

Hoping to hear your opinion of my own verses and stories soon.

Heaven bless and a huge “cyber hug” coming your way! (That was part of what caught my eye on Ms Patti’s page, your use of that term! I had never seen it till I started using it and I even have a little “emoticon” I drew to go with the saying!)

Oh, I wish I were an Oscar Mayer weiner…oh, no, that’s not the daydream! That’s the ad that stuck in my head. My crib must have been too close to the tv and it’s permanently embedded. How many times have I read about visualizing oneself doing what the heart desires? I think I’m doing what I’ve been called to do, but there’s always the question, “Is there something more?” Guess I should keep asking, seeking…maybe Calgon will help me get to that state of mind!

Patti, I was just wondering if you got the certificate I made for all of you and that I sent out to all of those who have commented on my work? If so, could you please let me know? Not a single one that I sent that gift to even responded, which makes me think that either they did not get it…they deleted it…or even worse, they got it and considered it so beneath their notice that they deleted it and did not feel it worthy of even a friendly mention. I made that out of the respect and admiration I bear each and every writer on wordpress, and it hurts to think that my gift may have been rejected.

      heaven bless,

      marantha

And I am wondering why, except for yourself and bekindrewrite and doing the write thing ever even bother to comment on my posts. Am I that bad?
