Greetings, everyone! I hope your week’s been productive and blessed!
Are you enjoying the seasonal colors? I love the pumpkins, cornstalks, and mums! Every few days, I notice something new in my neck of the woods. I think the fire bush in our front yard will be especially pretty this year.
Fall marches on…
I’ve started some new writing projects while awaiting feedback on others. One is a shorter fictional series set in my beloved Ozarks. Think Goldilocks and the Three Bears (different title, of course) with a fun and delicious twist. I’m still fleshing this one out, but I’m having fun with it. There’s a family doc, a kindergarten teacher, and a few energetic two-year-olds thrown in the mix.
Meanwhile, on the home front, we’re considering pets. Specifically, a pair of kittens. Since our beloved Lab (Blackie) passed away many years ago, I’ve not been particularly eager to add to our family. Besides the cost and upkeep, there’s the time infringement and bonding issue. The trauma of losing a special pet is never easy, and the fact that our lab died as the result of a tornado compounded the loss. I don’t know what we’ll decide yet, but I’ll keep you posted. Pets do add joy to our lives.
This month also ushers in a precursor to winter.
Temperatures dip. Heaters go on. Holiday movies hit the airwaves.
It’s that in-between season when I’m not quite ready to give up summer, yet I anticipate other things:
- The crisp, fall air and heavy, colorful quilts
- Fall festivals and craft shows
- Longer afternoon walks
- Tasty stews and chilis
- New writing projects
Here’s to a fun and fabulous fall weekend! (Or…is that too much alliteration?)
Please join me again Monday!

I LOVE rewrites of old stories! I’m excited to hear more details about your new project! And I’m so sorry to hear about your dog. My husband and I are dog people, but we’re not sure where we’ll be stationed next, so we’re hesitant to get a dog. It would be so difficult to give him up if we weren’t allowed to take him with us. How awful you lost him in a tornado! Tornadoes are the one thing I can’t get used to since we moved to Arkansas. One took out the house next to ours two years before we moved here. We didn’t have many of those out west at all.

Brittany, thankfully, our storm season this past spring and summer wasn’t too severe. We had tornadoes in our area in 2003 and 2005. Same path and so much damage in our neck of the woods. We don’t take it lightly when the weather takes a turn for the worst, and we’re blessed to have a “safe room”– something we didn’t know we’d use when we built our home years ago. Maybe we’ll have a pet again one day…
It’s always exciting to begin new writing projects! (And I’m looking forward to the research!) Perky “Pollyanna” Abby Reynolds adores gardening, teaching, and kiddos. When former high school tormentor and doctor-dad Jason Bair moves in next door with twin toddlers in tow, old memories surface and the adventure begins! Abby’s a wee bit accident-prone and Jason knows nothing about raising kids–specifically his adopted nephews. Will Abby and Jason join forces for the sake of two tousle-haired cuties or will a new preacher, an ex-flame, and a town disaster cramp the couple’s style?
I’m still toying with taglines and hooks! 🙂
Fall is my absolute favorite time of year. I love it so much!! And this fall is shaping up quite nicely. I’ve got one big deadline behind me, so I’m looking forward to a restful November. Still got some big to-dos to finish up in October, but after that…I’m looking forward to some relaxation and autumn recreation. 🙂

Melissa, you, my dear, have been a busy beaver! You deserve some much-needed R and R. I’m cheering for you!
Fall is bittersweet in many ways, especially this year, with my mother-in-law’s death last week.
I spend a lot of time outside, and the coming of winter simply isn’t comfortable. Love the colors, but they’re a harbinger of a cold nose!
The loss of your dog under those circumstances is awful…but heartbreak is the price we pay for love. Always.

Andrew, my deepest sympathy to you and your wife! My prayers are with you…
Ond day, there will be no heartbreak. I praise Him for that!
Cynthia – thank you. Yes, one day the hurts will be healed.
This is a colorful time of year. No heat yet, but I have slept under the quilt already.

Patti, we broke down and turned our heat on a few days ago (when the nights dropped to about 42 degrees!) Brrrr!
