As many of you know by now, if you’ve read this blog a bit, then you know that I write faith-based romance novels. The first book in my series is with my agent, and I’m continuing to work on book two.
In my post Isn’t It Romantic? I shared with you my perception of romance. Today, I’d like to highlight a few more reasons why I love to write about it:
- Unions founded upon Christ have even greater accountability.
- I get to tackle real-life issues while applying biblical principles.
- I’m able to share the salvation message as my characters’ stories unfold.
- I can create romantic tension and gentle love scenes WITHOUT incorporating X-rated views into the bedroom.
- I don’t have to curse or use foul language just for the shock value.
- I demonstrate faith in action.
- My novels are appropriate for teens through adults.
- I control the consequences of my characters’ choices. In other words, sin + repentance=forgiveness (but not without consequences). Sin + rejection of Christ=eternal darkness.
- I get to dispel the myth that Christians are cardboard cut-out, panty-waist do-gooders. (We’re just real people trying to muddle through life like everyone else EXCEPT that we have a loving Heavenly Father who picks us back up when we fall down).
- My novels have HAPPILY EVER AFTER! (After all, I do write ROMANCE. And as I’ve said before, I’ll gladly leave the murder, mayhem, and sordid endings to someone else.)

A question for you to think about…Why do you like to read/write faith-based romance?

Great list, Cynthia! I write faith-based romance for many of the same reasons. The other one I would add is that it’s my favorite genre to read, so I think that makes for a good fit. 🙂

Absolutely, Sarah!
I haven’t read romance in a long while, as they always seemed to lead to the X-factor. I’m looking forward to your book coming out!!

Working on that, Patti! 🙂
Oh, and venture out to your favorite Christian bookstore when you have time. There are so many wonderful authors I’m sure you would enjoy reading!
I am a romantic, without a doubt. I grew up singing lyrics from
South Pacific, “Some enchanted evening… .” I love faith-based
romance because it is innocent and wholesome and have no
desire to fill my mind with things that shouldn’t be there. I
also love your list and the fact that you use your writing to
present the Gospel. 🙂

Thanks, Tanya! And believe me, I don’t write about boring, namby-pamby characters who are clueless to the ways of the world. I create romantic tension (within biblical boundaries) and offer meat and potato story-lines to keep the reader turning pages. And I do all that WITHOUT cursing, describing body parts, or sharing intimate details of what happens in the bedroom. I know HOW; I just prefer not to. Glad we share the same ideals! 🙂
