Three Coins In a Fountain

Okay, admit it.  How many times have you walked by a water fountain and tossed a few coins in making a wish or two along the way?  Do we really think (hope) those wishes are going to come true, or is it purely out of habit that we dig for those pennies?

I’ll be honest, it’s some of both for me.  In a society today where doom and gloom seem to prevail, it gives me great satisfaction to prove the naysayers wrong.  Simple gestures and positive thinking can carry me a long way.  They keep hope alive, lighting the fuse on a powder keg of potential.  It’s all in the mindset.  When odds are that something won’t happen, believing something is possible is to believe in something bigger than myself.

As Christians, I think we intertwine hope and faith very closely with one another.  Personally, it gives me such a charge when we step back and allow God to triumph over circumstances that are stacked against us, or when the odds aren’t in our favor.  That’s the way it was with my writing career for the longest time.  The odds of a new author “breaking in” today are few and far between.  Yet, it doesn’t mean that it can’t or won’t happen–I mean, just look at me!

I’ve only just begun.  I know.  But signing with an incredible literary agent is no small feat these days.  I realize my book still has to be sold, and that may take a few more coins, a lot more prayer, and a God-size miracle.  God’s “fountain” can supply all of my needs, though, so I suppose I shouldn’t dwell on the uncertainties for now.  No, for now, I’ll continue to work on my next book, and continue to save back my extra pennies!

(And for those of you who write,  or even those who don’t, and you just need a word of encouragement today…Keep on keepin’ on, and watch for those fountains!)

A question for you to ponder…Does your faith play a role in how you approach the seemingly impossible?

Faith plays a major role for me. It gives me confidence that I don’t otherwise possess. I know that whatever comes out of me is from seeds that have germinated in the Light. It’s not up to me whether they grow where they’re scattered, so I just keep scattering what I’ve been given. But like the farmer, I like to check on them to see what has sprouted. 🙂 Only He can make an oak from an acorn.

So true, Patti! When we are truly spent and everything seems to be falling away, the Lord continues to anchor us! (And just like the oak you mentioned above, sometimes He grows authors from ordinary moms!)
