I’ll get right to the point. Friends, this is the story that will change your life. Pour yourselves a cup of coffee, grab a scone, and I’ll tell you why.

I read more fiction than memoirs, but when I heard bits and pieces of Dabney Hedegard’s miraculous healing, I was hooked. I HAD to have this book. I had to know this young woman’s story.

If you’ve ever crept, crawled, or cried your way through a valley, or perhaps you’re still meandering through, Dabney’s words and the miraculous story of her healing will give you hope. Not the namby-pamby glimmer of possibility, but the heart-clinching, jaw-dropping, blow-your-socks-off shoutin’ time kind of HOPE!

(I wish I’d had something like this to read as I walked my own valley several years ago.)

Here’s a bit of the back cover teaser: “When Dabney Hedegard was six weeks pregnant, doctors discovered an eight-inch tumor embedded in her chest. She was diagnosed with cancer, cardiomyopathy, mitral valve prolapse, pulmonary embolism, acute pneumonia, kidney failure, respiratory failure, and heart failure. In each instance, Dabney was given less than a 30 percent chance of surviving, and twice doctors told her husband, ‘She’ll never make it through the night.'”

Wow!

I. Mean. Wow!

Doesn’t that make you wonder, folks, how in the world did this woman survive? Well, from the outset it’s clear there’s no explanation “in the world” why she did. It’s otherworldly. It’s a supernatural, God-ordained miracle.

As I read about Dabney’s remarkable journey to the brink of death and how she survived despite the odds, I paused many times just to say Thank you, Jesus! (And of course, being the tender-hearted gal I am, I found it necessary to blow my nose about every other paragraph.) It’s that kind of book.

When God Intervenes (Tyndale) opens, we’re immediately thrust into the heart of Dabney’s story. We sense the foreboding—the gut-wrenching knowledge that something is indeed not normal. Dabney is about to come face-to-face with the nemesis that strikes fear in all of us. Cancer. And to compound the difficult decisions that have to be made regarding treatment, Dabney’s pregnant.

While having a baby should be a joyous time for any woman and her husband, Dabney’s cancer diagnosis and treatment options quickly mar the couple’s short-lived happiness. From page one of Dabney’s extraordinary memoir, the rollercoaster action begins and never lets up. The highs and lows and in-betweens of Dabney’s incredible journey embed themselves in your brain as if you, yourself, are in the passenger seat alongside her.

This young woman endured dozens of life-threatening complications, and by today’s medical standards, shouldn’t even be here. That’s why you should read this book! If you’ve ever been told “there’s no hope” or know someone else who has, you must read Dabney Hedegard’s story. (Pages 264-265, specifically, will give you some idea of God’s supernatural power.)

Physicians can diagnose, predict, treat, and prescribe, and still fall short of sustaining life, but when the Great Physician ordains it, the unpredictable happens. Miracles unfold and the extraordinary transpires!

Very few stories have touched me as much as When God Intervenes. Dabney Hedegard’s words challenged me. And changed my life.

God has gifted you with the talent to write. I loved this: “If you’ve ever crept, crawled, or cried your way through a valley, or perhaps you’re still meandering through…” We’ve all been through painful seasons in our lives and each time we hear others God-stories our faith is renewed. Thank you for spreading His message of hope.

I’m blessed to call you friend.

Dabney, thank you for having the courage to share your story. God is ministering to others through you, and it’s obvious His hand is on your life. As I read When God Intervenes I knew immediately it was going to be a life-changer. I think the biggest thing I’ve learned in my own journey, and as you proved, too, is that our seasons sometimes aren’t even about us. It’s about how God can advance HIS kingdom through the transparency of the muck and mire of our seemingly hopeless situations. I believe that’s when God loves blowing us out of the water with His unexplainable, supernatural, all-encompassing divinity. Praise Him!

(And friend–right backatcha! The blessing is mine.)
