The Apple Doesn’t Fall Far From the Tree…

Do you ever wonder how much family influences us?

Experts say that the first five years of a child’s life are key developmental years. We learn by example.

The environment a child is raised in is crucial to self-worth. Social and emotional growth are determined by what we’re exposed to, and we thrive in a healthy climate or learn to adjust in a poor one.

I was blessed to be raised in a Christian home.

My family wasn’t wealthy monetarily, but the love that existed within our home was priceless. We took joy in the mundane—car rides after church on Sundays, old movies, trips to the library, quests for the best mushrooms.

Though Daddy spent much of his time working hard to support us, when he did have a few spare moments to himself he sometimes would take out a pen and tablet. Penning poetry was his passion. I, too, became fascinated by the written word and found myself sharing his desire to create.

Now my father doesn’t write as much as he used to, but he still takes joy in reading a good book. Westerns are his favorites. On a typical day he might ride along in a cattle drive or set out on an adventure in the green hills of Wyoming.

I write inspirational romance so our interests vary, but we both admire a great story.

Daddy and I share a bond that, at times, when no one else gets where I’m coming from, he does. I can tell by the sparkle in his eye and a nod of his head that he understands why I do what I do. And I’m reminded that an apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

A question for you to ponder…

Is there anyone in your life who’s influenced your desire to write?

Blessings Always,

My first grandchild was the reason I began journaling. I remember seeing pictures of my great-grandparents, and wondered what they were like. My parents are gone, now, too; and I want my grandchildren to know about their forebears. Where my brother works on genealogy and has names of ancestors, I want to offer a more personal look into the daily lives of our family. They will probably never have to deal with insomnia. 🙂
