It’s Officially Fall in the Ozarks!

Cynthia Herron Snippets of Life 2 Comments

September has been an incredibly busy month for our family.

You may remember we’re in the midst of tennis season so we’ve been on the go with matches and tournaments since school started in August. (This is our fourth year of doing this so we’ve come to expect the hectic pace and realize it’s temporary. And I’m sure I’ll shed a few tears when that last match is played.)

For the past five weeks or so, we’ve  run to and fro from town to town to watch our daughter play the sport she dearly loves. For instance, last week we were home 0/5 days! Now granted, one of the five was “Senior Day” at a nearby college she hopes to attend.

Add to that, the usual busyness that comes with a student’s senior year. There are photos to schedule. Cap, gown, announcements, and memorabilia to order. ACT exams. College paperwork. Project graduation. You name it—we’re on it.

And today—fall has officially arrived in the Ozarks! (As it has for you, too.) How did that happen?

Over our way, temperatures have shifted and the days are a little shorter, the nights a little cooler.

The surrounding hills and hollows are beginning to shed their summer cloaks in favor of fall’s golden palette. Despite this precursor to winter, I adore this time of year.

There’s something about the fall that’s bittersweet—something that holds me captive like no other season. Maybe it’s the interchange of colors. The scent of burning leaves wafting across the meadow. The leaf-peeping and long Sunday drives.

Maybe, it’s just nostalgia.

To simply describe fall in the Ozarks doesn’t do this region justice. You just have to visit to experience it for yourself.

If you do plan a trip to our little piece of paradise, check out Explore Branson. (Lots of helpful links and info there.) Though we’re a bit north of Branson as the crow flies, it’s one of our family’s favorite getaways.
