Hello friends…

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day!

It’s great to be back in the blogging saddle again. I hope your day’s off to a super start and that you’re wearing your green. =)

Last week was spring break at our house so I took a blogging sabbatical, stepped back from social media, and spent some quality time with our daughter. (Shopping, hair, nails– you know– the important things.)

I had some productive writing time and I was able to meet an important deadline. I also examined new goals, organized notes, and straightened my office a bit. (Still working on that one.)

In celebration of Saint Patrick’s Day, I’m wearing my green– lest I get pinched! If you’d like to know more about this religious and cultural holiday, you can find out more here. (Tons of interesting facts and information– including what Saint Patrick actually used the shamrock for.)

Of course, the real meaning behind the holiday is rarely discussed in public schools today. Saint Patrick is mentioned in more of a vague, generic sense.

When I was a child, I remember coloring pretty green shamrocks at school and reading fun stories about leprechauns, rainbows, and pots of gold– our woefully watered down version of  a holiday many consider religious and rightfully so.

Although we had fun with the holiday, in the little school I attended it was understood that Saint Patrick was indeed a person of faith. Obviously. And we could openly discuss such things in school then because it was a different time. I wonder, today, if children are even aware of the history behind the celebration.

At home, my mama made corned beef and cabbage and our house smelled funky for a day or so, but it sure was a culinary treat! Sometimes, we’d have a big ol’ pot of mashed potatoes with this delicious meal just so we could drizzle the cabbage juice over the taters. Mmmm…

We’d also watch some family friendly movies– Finian’s Rainbow, Darby O’Gill and the Little People, and The Quiet Man (love that one) to name a few.

Regardless how you’re celebrating Saint Patrick’s Day, if you’re searching for a great read, check out the Heirs of Ireland Trilogy by Michael K. Reynolds. You may remember, I reviewed Flight of the Earls (the first in this wonderful trilogy) and I loved the book! (See my review for more thoughts.) I have the other two books sitting on my desk, but I’ve not had time to start them yet. I’m looking forward to it!

I also wanted to recommend a great site I found recently– nothing to do with the holiday, but if you like money-saving tips, do-it-yourself projects, and the idea of living simply, you’ll adore Little House Living: Making the Most with What You Have. I’ve had a ball discovering the many uses of honey. In addition to the fabulous recipes at LHL, there are some scrumptious dishes for my gluten-free friends, as well. In short– Little House Living is one of my new faves!

Now… I wanted to say a few words to those of you who are going through tough times:

I love you in Jesus.

I’m here for you.

I’m praying for you.

And about that. Prayer.

If you have something you’d like me to pray specifically about, you can let me know (privately) at my contact page. I have ongoing names in a prayer journal I take before the Lord daily. I do not share these names or requests. I hold no special favor. I’m not any different from you.

However…

there is power in prayer and power at the Throne. And I will commit to pray.

See you back on Wednesday!

Ahhh, Patti! Miranda, our fur baby, is certainly giving us a run for our money! (It’s like having a toddler in the house all over again! Lol) Yes, I did manage to accomplish some writing goals. =)
