Happy (Early) Easter

Good Friday.

The day always tweaks my heartstrings.

I reflect on Christ’s earthly ministry. How he loves us. How he willingly laid down his life so we could spend eternity with him in heaven. (John 3:16)

Many will celebrate the weekend with egg hunts and Easter bunnies and other fun traditions, but during the fun, I hope folks will pause  and give thanks for the true meaning of the holiday.

Over our way, we’ll attend second church service and then we’ll head home and gather ’round the dinner table with family. We’ll dine on baked ham and all the delicious sides, and we’ll enjoy lively conversation and each other’s company.

We’ll probably slip in a movie—maybe The Sound of Music or another favorite classic.

If you’ve never seen The Passion of the Christ, I recommend it. This is a film that’s difficult to watch and it’s not for young children, but it makes us realize what Jesus endured because of his unfathomable love for us. Nothing about our Savior’s crucifixion was pretty and this movie doesn’t shy away from the fact.

Easter’s a poignant time—an observance of Jesus’s death, burial, and resurrection—yet it’s also a time of spiritual renewal and a blessed reminder of the hope that awaits us.

For this reason, Easter’s one of my favorite holidays. (Please share.)

Truly, the dark before the dawn, but oh…what a magnificent dawn!

May you and yours experience joy at its fullest this Easter weekend.

Easter holds a special place in my heart for two reasons; what He did on the cross and the decision I made one Easter Sunday to be His.
