Had a Down-in-the-Mouth Week? Here’s Your Bright Spot!

Well, here in the Ozarks we’ve had our share of rain lately. Buckets of it, in fact. You may have heard about some of the flooding. *sigh*

Coupled with the latest changes in CBA fiction, this hasn’t been a banner week. It’s enough to leave us down-in-the-mouth. For those of us who write Christian fiction we’re upset and confused about yet more change.

Here’s the scoop on that:

  • What’s Going On With CBA Fiction?, an excellent run-down by agent Chip MacGregor, is a thought-provoking read on the state of the industry. Chip’s blog post hits some valid points. Christian readership is strong. Why then do markets continue to shrink? Well, he has some thoughts about that.

Now, we can sit back and wring our hands and bemoan the unfairness of it all or we can view change as opportunity—opportunity to grow in fresh, bold ways we hadn’t considered before.

Some of those ways might include:

–> Channeling our creativity into new projects

–> Considering an avenue outside our comfort zone

–> Asking a friend to join us on the journey

–> Reevaluating our craft and putting a fresh spin on it

The bottom line is none of this is a surprise to God.

Yes, there are things within our power we can do to advance our cause. Some things will work, some won’t. At the end of the day, God’s still in charge.

Regardless the state of the publishing industry or what “experts” predict, God’s the ultimate authority on the past, present, and future. He could decide tomorrow the experts’ predictions are wrong! (I love it when that happens. Don’t you?)

So—a lot to chew on here.

What about some good news?

Well, you’ve come to the right place.

Here’s your bright spot:

I don’t watch a lot of television, but lately, I’m an America’s Got Talent (Tuesday nights on NBC) convert.

This week, the Selected of God Choir blew me right out of the water. Wow!

As I watched their performance Tuesday night, tears flowed. I couldn’t even contain the emotion.

This choir’s conviction—their heart—for Who they served embodied something I think we’re sorely lacking today. Joy.

And they left me spellbound.

Selected of God tapped into my secret place—the one I reserve for just the Lord.

A place where hope still dwells.

A place where mountains move, miracles happen, and possibility exists.

Check out a snippet of their goosebump performance or the entire clip. You’ll be so so glad you did.

Biggest. Blessing. Ever!
